"What did you do?" I shrieked, my body trembling in total shock.
"I'm doing the right thing." He replied stiffly, pulling out the hand cuffs from his waistband. My eyes widened momentarily at the sight of them as he neared me, his face crossed in worry. "You shouldn't be here, Rose." he shook his head.
"You shouldn't have killed them - they'll send you in!" I claimed, pointing at the dead bodies before us.
"I quit the moment I was dragged outside." He muttered, sounding desperate. He what?
"Why?" I tilted my head slightly to the side. "Cane, you'll get in trouble for this." I hissed, annoyed with the fact that he put himself in such a fucked up situation.
"Don't you get it?" he hissed back, standing in front of me. His brown angry eyes softened as he scanned my face. "My purpose is to help criminals like you change to better and start over. What's the point if you die?" he mumbled, shaking his head gently.
"Cane you can't do anything-,"
"You need to go, Rose."
I sucked in a breath, blinking, as I tried to process what is actually going on. The chaos around us seemed to fade away as we looked at each other with pure worry and serenity. He sighed and looked down the hallway I came from before looking past me through the window.
"You deserve a second chance. Logan couldn't give it to you, so I will." he said softly, thoughtful, broken, brown eyes piercing through mine.
I was out of breath, my heart literally raced with love and appreciation for the man that was always there for me. I fought the urge to cry at the realization that he indeed has helped me through so much and now he is giving me the ticket to exit this hellhole, turning his back to the others. If there is one person I can actually, fully trust in here, it's not Harry.
It's Cane.
"Come with me."
His puppy, loving eyes widened in surprise, his lips parting slightly. "I can't." he shook his head, raising his hand to cup my face gently.
"Yes you can, come on," I insisted, nodding my head towards the exit. He has to come with me, if he stays back, God knows what will happen to him. "Cane, they'll hurt you -,"
"They can't hurt me." he cut me off firmly, his thumb holding my chin up so I was facing him. "Rose you have to run as far as you can, you have to leave this place and start over! Change ID, change your appearance, do anything so we won't find you!" I was at a loss of words at the advices he gave me because these were exactly what I had in mind, but hearing the FBI's psychiatrist voice them to a breakout prisoner was absurd.
"I will." I nodded twice, the anxiety increasing my heart rate to a high level.
"And stay away from Harry." The coldness stirring his voice was enough to sink into my brain, his eyes darkening with hate. "You can't trust him, Rose." he added in a softer tone.
I nodded, knowing he is right deep inside. When a loud bang was heard from the top of the stairs, we both jumped and snapped out from our little bubble. Shouts and footsteps running down the stairs followed, meaning they were coming.
Cane looked at me panicky, "Go!" he yelled, dropping his hand from my face.
I wrapped my arms around his tall body, hugging him closely to me. He seemed as if he wanted to do the same thing as he instantly locked his arms around my own petite body and pressed me against him, his breath fondling my ear. I closed my eyes, memorizing this lovely moment deep inside my brain.
