AN: The end is here! Final chapter before the first look into my next book continuing this series :)-
Monroe's pov
"I'm sure you guys can take care of the rest. I gotta put Justin behind bars."
"Whoa, what do you mean the rest?" Rhodey asked quite curiously.
"You'll see," I vaguely warned, sensing that Vanko was still alive.
I ran off to visit those same men that Natasha and I questioned before having them call authorities. I found policemen walking by and I led them to Justin Hammer.
"That's your guy here."
"Excuse me? Are you kidding me? I'm trying to help here." Hammer argued followed by laughter. "I get it. I see what you're doing. You're trying to pin this on me, huh? That's good. You're starting to think like a CEO, taking out the competition. I like that. You think you're making a problem for me? I'm gonna make a problem for you. I'm gonna be seeing you again real soon."
I narrowed my eyes as the officers took him away. I walked outside the building and waited until the area was clear. A rush of anxiousness coursed through me as my eyes grew brighter. I looked around, not finding anyone to be threatening. It had clicked that the emotion wasn't mine. My surroundings changed into Tony's perspective. I looked down to find Ivan practically dying with a red light flashing on his chest.
'You lose.'
What does that mean...? I was pulled from my vision when I heard beeping. One of the destroyed drones had the same flashing light that Ivan did. Seconds after I had found it, Tony barely landed as he wrapped his arms around my waist and took off once again. The beeping discontinued once the drone exploded. The flames nearly touched us but failed to do so. We flew above many locations that had also been destroyed by similar explosions due to the many drones that had been laying around. I felt my feet touch a surface and I immediately pulled away. Tony's suit had sparks flying out while our only safe spot at the moment was on the roof of some random building. With the suit dysfunctioning, Tony removed his helmet.
"What the actual hell?! I don't think I can take this anymore."
"You can't?"
"I can't take this."
"What are you- look at me!"
"Dammit, Stark. I never know if you're going to kill yourself or have S.H.I.E.L.D. do that for you."
"I think I did okay."
"I gave away the CEO position away. It was a great offer, I didn't plan on telling you this way but here it is."
"Jess-"
"No, Tony. I'm reassigning myself. That's it. I'm gonna talk to Fury."
"What did you just say? You're done? That's surprising. No, it's not surprising. I get it. You don't have to make any excuses."
"I'm not making any excuses."
"You actually were just making excuses, but you don't have to."
"No, I'm actually very justified."
"Listen. Hey, hey. You deserve better. You've taken such good care of me. I've been in a tough spot, but you got me through it, so... right?" Tony nods slightly to give the idea that he understood.
"Thank you."
"Yeah."
"Thank you for understanding."
