Riley's POV

Today is the day. I get up and reach across the bed to grab my phone. I pull up Katie's number and I call her.
*Ring Ring*
"Hi, Riley!"
"Hey, Sweetheart."
"Can you believe it?! Today is the day I get new lungs! I get to live!"
"I'm so happy for you! You deserve the world, Princess."
I can hear her crying on the other end.
"Baby, I've got to go. I love you so much and I always will."
"Thanks again for being there for me. I love you, too."
I press the button that ends the call and get dressed.
I get in my car and drive to the same hospital she is currently at.
I walk in to the doors and practically start shaking from fear. I don't want to die, but if it means saving her, I'm all up for it.
I get into the operating room and find Katie laying down. She looks at me and it takes her a second to realize that I'm the donor.
Her face goes pale.
"No.. NO! LET ME OUT." She is screaming at the top of her lungs.
The doctors have to hold her down and quickly insert anesthesia.
"No don't do it." She looks at me with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"I love you," I say and kiss her forehead one last time before her eyes flutter shut and she stops struggling.
I lay on the operating table and shiver as my body touches the cold metal.
The nurses give me a shot of anesthesia and tell me to count down from ten.

And just like that, I'm out.
Next thing I know I'm waking up. Why am I still alive?
I quickly look down and unbutton my shirt.
There's no scar?
I hear the sound of Katie groaning. Her eyes open. She looks over and see's me.
"Riley! You're alive!!"
I smile and reach out to grab her hand.
A doctor comes in to explain what happened. "There was a last minute opening for a new lung before we cut into you," He says.
"So we will both live?!" Katie asks.
He nods his head.
We both well up with tears. I'm not a crybaby, I promise, but this is the best news I've ever heard!
After all of this, I know for a fact that there is only one person I will ever love.
I'm going to ask her to marry me.
