Jungkook's pov:
It couldn't get any more real. I climbed the same backstairs and reached the same roof in my dream. I imagined my mom humming her melodious tunes, the way she opened her arms for me, and me running to her. In that moment, I realized once more how much I missed her; how much I needed her.
"This is the place Jin and I used to spend time when we were kids. Please, come and sit." Taehyung's voice brought me back to present. He sat down and patted the surface beside him for me to sit on. I obeyed.
"You know, Jungkook, I didn't use to be the street rat that I am now. I had this home, my family. We weren't rich, but we were somehow happy.
Jin and I became friends because our families were friends. Our home was bigger. So, his parents would always visit us, and we would all gather in here and made our nights the best it could be. You see, Jin and I were always together. We would sit here and goof around.
Our families would do that, as well. At least, that was what we thought. As we got older, we found out the main secret that our parents had hidden from us. They would gather too much because they were doing business, drug business to be exact. But, that wasn't just all. Our dads were also..." He stopped and lowered his head.
"What were they, Taehyung?"
"They were mercenaries." I couldn't control my face and show no reaction. I was shocked to death.
"Yeah, they would get money from rich people like you to kill also other rich people like you. Our houses were always full of those self-absorbed guys. They would just demand nonstop and nothing good ever came out of their mouths." Taehyung frowned while recalling those people in his mind.
"How did you lose your parents?" I finally tried to make him talk again after waiting for a while.
"We were living our life kinda normally. As normal as it could be for criminals until Jin's fourteenth birthday came. That was when our parents acted differently.
They would send us to our room when someone visited us. Letters started to drown us. You could find them everywhere in both of our houses. I would steal them and take them to Jin to read them for me. I'm illeterate if you wanna know why.
They were all threats. "Shut your mouths or you'll die!" When we asked our parents what were all these shits, they would just put the happy face for us and pretend that we're the same amazing family, but both of them and us knew we weren't anymore."
"Who sent those letters to you?"
"That's what I have never found out. Nor have I found out why those letters were sent to us, why they needed to shut up, what they knew that cost their lives."
"THEIR LIVES?!" I shouted at the top of my lungs.
"Yes. Their lives, otherwise they would be still alive and be here with us." I saw the tears that formed in the corners of his eyes. He was trying all in him not to break down.
"Taehyung, what the hell happened to your parents, both of your parents?"
"One night both of our parents asked us to stay at Jin's home as they had important deals to take care of. Jin and I were having fun as usual. I clearly remember he talked about a hot guy he met in school. He said the boy asked him for a date. He wanted my opinion about going to the date.
I can remember all of those like they happened yesterday. It was getting late, but there wasn't any news from Jin's parents and not even mine, either. We both got worried. It was past midnight.
We decided to go and check on them. From far, we could hear the Police and other cars' alarms. So, we ran the rest of the way to my home, but home wasn't home anymore. It was on fire. Firefighters were trying to put it off, but it was too late. The fire got the whole house. I-it got them." Taehyung finally let it out, voice breaking at the end.
