Amira's POV
A 12. That's the highest score anyone from District 12 has ever gotten. The room erupts in claps and a smile appears on Dapps face. I congratulate him, secretly jealous. I know I should be proud of him, and I am, but it seems to put a target on his back which could affect me. The group chats for a while and soon enough we head off to bed. Interviews are tomorrow, and the next day the games will begin. I try and get some rest, waking up every hour or two. I can't change what's going to happen in the future now. Everything I could've done to save myself from death is over. Now I just need to have luck on my side. Finally, the clock strikes 8 and I crawl out of bed and head to the kitchen. Platters full of delicious breakfast foods are laying on the table waiting for me. Dapp sits at the edge of the table, resting his head in his hand, staring off to space.
"Good morning." I say, my morning voice cracking.
"Hey." He says, smiling at me. I set my plate down next to his.
"How did you sleep?" I ask him, curious to see if he couldn't sleep either.
"I didn't." He says, looking down.
"I just kept thinking about my family. I know that things will be harder at home without me and I don't know if-"
I cut him off.
"Hey." I say , resting my hand on his shoulder. Our eyes meet and I look directly into his.
"You have a chance Dapp. You scored a 12. If anyone's gonna make it out of that arena alive it's going to be you." I say. We smile at each other and dig in to our food. The morning goes by faster than I expected. Effie teaches me how to behave at the interview and Cinna lets me try on my outfit. It's a blue dress fading into a lighter blue. The top ruffles with beautiful feathers and silk. He carefully places a diamond hairpiece into my hair, and I look in the mirror.
"Wow." I say, smiling. I have never felt this beautiful in my life.
A train takes Dapp and I to the interviews. We stand in line nervously, waiting until all 22 tributes finish. I go first, walking out of the hallway on onto the stage with a big smile on my face. I can win the capital over with my beauty and bubbly personality. It's the only way that will work because I know I don't have enough skill otherwise.
Caesar Flickerman greets me as I sit down. Caesar asks me basic questions about my family and the time is coming to an end. I think I did well.
Dapps POV
My navy blue suit glitters under the Capitol lights. Caesar and I speak about my score in training, and all of my weapon skills. I realize that at the end he'll ask me a jaw dropping question.
"So." He starts, the audience quieting down.
"You've got some pretty big shoes to fill from last year. How do you feel about walking in the shadow of two legends?" Caesar asks, smiling.
"Well, I certainly do not have an outfit that lights on fire." I say, the audience cracking up.
"But I do believe Peeta and I have more in common then you would think." I say, looking down.
"Oh really?" Caesar says, a mischievous smile on his face. "And what would that be?"
"Well." I say, smiling.
Here it goes.
"We are both in love with our district partners."
