Music had always been a huge part of Alex's life. From being obsessed with musicals such as Miranda, AntWine, and Eight to rocking out to everything from country to rock to K-Pop, he had always had a huge love of music. His mother had encouraged it and bought him his first guitar after saving for a month for it. He still had it with him.
Now the eighteen-year-old was in the senior year at Merser Highschool in New York City. He was in debate, top of nearly all of his classes (He sucked at Home Ec. Who decided to give high schoolers stoves and knives anyway?), and one of the most popular kids. He had best friends and enemies, frenemies and anti-friends. He was dating one of the most popular girls in school. Nothing could be better. Could it?
To him it could. Everybody expected him to go into politics. Eliza, his girlfriend of nearly a year, was planning on going off to college for education and he was expected to go with her. Everybody in their group had more or less been excepted to the same college or ones near it. Even their foreign exchange student friend, a handsome Frenchman who went by Lafayette, had decided to postpone his return to France to go to college with them.
He didn't want to be a lawyer or politician. He wanted to make music. He loved posting covers on RevolutionaryMusic.com, a music sharing site that was anonymous and absolutely swarming with scouting agents. He posted covers from his favorite musicals, bands he liked, and sometimes posted his originals. But nobody knew he was into music. Except for John.
There were a million Johns at their school, but only one truly mattered to Alexander: John Laurens. He was the first person to talk to him when he moved to New York after a hurricane tragically destroyed his home. He stood up for him when Thomas Jefferson and his best friend James Madison started bullying him. He introduced him to Lafayette and Hercules Mulligan, a strong teenager with a knack with a needle and a huge and obvious crush on the Frenchman. He was his best friend.
Only John knew about his passion for music. John loved sitting there and listening to him play and sing, even if Alexander was to bashful most of the time. He gave him ideas for songs, constantly bought him quotes picks and sheet music, and supported him unconditionally.
This didn't stop Alexander from wanting to strangle John when he handed him a flyer and a backstage pass. His friend had enlisted him in a talent showcase. Which you couldn't back out of. And he had that smug little shit eating grin on his face as he handed the information to Alexander.
"Can't back out. Already paid for and everything. Can do covers or your own originals." John smiled at him and Alex gripped his guitar tighter for some reason.
"John, I'm not good enough for this." He hissed, half in anger and half in embarrassment. Nobody would even like his voice or his guitar skills.
"Excuse me? You are perfect for this! You are going to win! You are amazing! You are Alexander Hamilton!" John shouted.
"John no-"
"What's your name man?"
"What?"
"The world's gonna know your name! What's your name man?"
"..."
"Alexander Hamilton. My name is Alexander Hamilton."
"What's your name man?!"
"Alexander Hamilton!"
John hugged him tightly, smiling brightly and holding him to his chest. Alex smiled into his best friends shoulder, clutching his guitar to his heart. His face was bright red, his heart was pounding, and he couldn't exactly look John in the eye when they pulled away a minute later.
"Let's get down to business." John grinned, flopping on the bed.
"To defeat the huns!" Alex yelled excitedly, and they spent the rest of the day practicing. Only one month til the showcase.

Alex sighed nervously. He was wearing skinny jeans and a green t-shirt that Lafayette said brought out his eyes. Hercules had made sure everything fit, and John did his hair and had given him a good luck charm: A guitar pick with a turtle on it. Lafayette has given him a simple silver chain bracelet, and Hercules she given him the matching necklace. He truly had the best friends in the world.
