the next morning i opened my eyes to the sound of a knock at my door.

i rolled over onto my side and looked at the door "go away." i groaned.

but the doorknob turned and sodapop peaked his head in
"hey, fizz, uhm darry said to wake you up. breakfast is almost ready" he smiled slightly before leaving and shutting the door.

i stood up and started to get ready. i changed out of last nights clothes and put on some old ripped up jeans, a gray t shirt, and a red flannel. i tied my brown, curly hair up in a ponytail and looked in the mirror for a second before walking out of my room.

i've never been one to care about my looks. i grew up surrounded by boys.

i walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table. "hey" i mumbled, still tired from getting home late.

ponyboy looked across the table at me and laughed "you look awful."

i rolled my eyes.
"gee don't you make me feel pretty" i faked smiled.

ponyboy and i teased each other a lot. that's the type of relationship we had, i guess. it's always been like that.

darry came in and set two plates in front of ponyboy and i "sodapop! stop worrying about that damned hair oil and get down here!"
he yelled up the stairs.

sodapop came rushing down and sat down in front of his plate "i'm sorry. and it's not just damned hair oil. you know that..." he said, picking his fork up.

darry shook his head and looked at me
"we still haven't finished our conversation from last night..." he said, raising an eyebrow.

"what? am i grounded?" i asked, laughing slightly.

"no. but you have to be home by ten on a school night. no more of this staying out past one on a school night. let alone any night..." he said

"what were you even doing?" sodapop asked.

"nothin." i shrugged "just walking around i guess"

i lied a lot.

all of a sudden i heard our front door open and slam shut. "hey curtis family! how's it hanging?!" i heard two- bits familiar voice ask.

"hey, two. how ya doin?"
soda asked.

"mighty fine"
he said, smiling at us.

steve looked at all of us and smiled a little
"hey. what's up?" he asked

"hey." darry said, not looking up from his paper.

"is johnny comin?" ponyboy asked, looking at two- bit.
and just then johnny came strutting through our front door

"hey, y'all" he said, smiling that classic sheepish smile of his.

"heyyyy johnnycakes" sodapop said.

two- bit came up behind me and put his hands on my shoulders.
"hey kid. how's it going?"

i looked back at him
"it'd be going a lot better if i was asleep right now"
he laughed and messed up my ponytail a bit.

our gang was pretty small. darry , sodapop, ponyboy, steve randle, two- bit mathews, johnny cade, and...dallas winston.

oh god...dallas winston. he was usually not here in the mornings but...damn is there something about that boy that drove me crazy. he was 17. too old for me plus darry would never allow it.

but i couldn't help but fantasize.

two- bit, soda, and ponyboy are the only people who know. they always tease me about it but i don't mind.

dally was a wildcard. a rebelling teenager. a jd. a hood. a real greaser. he's tuff and mean and hates the law...loves to break it. i'd give anything for him to notice me as more then just the gangs little sister but it was never going to happen.

"we'd better get going to school." johnny said, looking at ponyboy and i.

we both nodded and just like that johnny, ponyboy, steve, two- bit, and i were off to school. sodapop dropped out of school and now worked at the dx...

dally didn't go to school... i couldn't tell you why.

as i grabbed my backpack i wonder what was in store for me that day at the hell of a place we called school.
