Chapter 7: The debt is paid, but you are staying

2 nights later

And done! I just finished modifying the Mustang. Now I'll give to it a bath.

"Hey Lex. How is it going?", I hear Cole.

"Oh Gosh, please stop sneaking like that. You scared me", I say trying to breath normally.

"Sorry, dear"

"And about your question. It's done. The Mustang is ready to race", I say.

May God have mercy on me tonight, because I feel that something is off.

"You're the best. Now let's go and eat something"

"But I have to wash the car"

"You can do that later"

"No, I had to do it now. There's 3 more hours until I have to leave"

"We have to leave"

"Yeah, whatever, we", I say with a sarcastic voice.

At the race, couple of hours later

Oh, boy! Here I am!

"You'll do amazing, sunshine" 

"Thank you Cole, for reminding for the hundredth time this day"

"Be happy that you have support"

"If you say so"

But something feels wrong. Way too wrong

"Well darling, now it's your chance to win. Get in the car and make me proud", Cole says.
I get in the car and I go at the start line.

And now on my left, we have a beautiful Mustang '69 driven by a beautiful girl Alexis Carter!
And on my right, from the same muscle class, the SRT Hellcat driven by Raven Black!
Muscle against muscle! Who's going to win?

I look through the window and I see the Hellcat. Let's get this over.

I'm sorry mate, but it will be one winner.

1,2,3! GO!

Hellcat was in front of me, but with the changing of gear, I'm next to it in matter of seconds.
I changed the gear and now, we were fighting to be the first.
It's not going to be you. 500 more meters and I'll finish it it.

So, what's a beautiful finish without a nice drift?

And the Mustang wins! Congratulations Alexis Carter!

I won! Fuck yes! I took the car back at the start. Cole was there smiling proud.

I got out of the car and he hugged me after he stepped on the cigarette. 

I didn't know that Cole was smoking. 

"Congratulations Lex! I'm proud of you girl!"

"Don't be so happy. It's most likely to be real dead after I'll pay the debt"

Then someone came to us.

"You're Alexis Carter,right?"

"Yes. Is something wrong?"

"No, follow me"

I look at Cole confused, and he lifts up his shoulders not knowing what's going on.

I followed the girl until we arrive in a office. I don't know if I should be scared or not. 

"Sir, the winner came. Here she is"

"Thank you Amanda. You may leave",  the man says to the girl. "Please, take a seat"

"So, why exactly am I here?"

"You're here to take the reward for winning the race this year. You have a lot of courage to take part in this kind of race. Not a lot of females could won, but you did. I guess you know how much the reward is"

"Actually sir, no, I don't. I did this, because I have to pay a debt"

"A debt? Interesting. Mind if I ask to who?"

"Aaron", I say. 

"Oh yeah, I know the guy. Big mouth, but you can do business with him. What's your name? I have to keep a list every year, and no one bothered to tell me before who the racers are this year"

"Alexis Carter, sir"

"Carter? You're the daughter of the Carter couple?"

I nodded. 

"Good people. We used to be good friends.  Well, I am sorry for your loss. Right, back to business. The reward is 20 millions dollars. I'll have someone to get the the bags at your car. But first I want you to sign this", he says and he hands me a paper with a pen. I signed it and gave it back. "Congratulations Alexis, I hope I'll see you again"

"Thank you sir. Have a great night!", I say. 

"You too kid!"

The girl that helped me to get here, also takes me back. When I arrived at the car, I thanked her. 

"Well, how was it?", Cole asks. 

"It was good. I can pay the debt", I say and two boys showed up to the car. "Thank you guys" 

Cole helped me to get the bags in the car and right after I drove to the warehouse.

When we arrived there, in the garage, Aaron was already expecting for us.

"Well? How did it go?", Aaron asks. 

I said nothing, instead I showed him the reward.

"Good girl. Now, the debt is paid-", he said and I was waiting for him to say to Cole to kill me, but instead of this, I heard "- but you're staying"

"What?! I'm no use to you anymore", I say. 

"Oh dear, but you are. You have no idea how useful you are", he says stroking my cheek. Disgust shows up in my stomach. 

"Go to hell!", I say. 

"Don't worry about that, because if I go, I'm dragging you too. Now, dear, what about to take a break few weeks and then come back to work? You can take Cole too, after all, you're partners", Aaron says leaving me and Cole alone. 

"Is he serious?", I ask. 

"I know Aaron for some time and I can tell he was serious"

"Oh great! I'm dead to my family, and now I have to stay with a creep? Oh, how great!", I say. 

"Be thankful that you're not dead for real"

"It doesn't sound like a bad idea after all"

"Let's go for a drive, Lex. We both can use one right now"

So, we got in the Demon and I drove to the hill we stayed couple of nights ago. 

Everything seems unreal for me. I thought Aaron would get rid of me, but it didn't cross my mind that I will stay alive. Great, feeling more guilty than already I am. 

"Are you okay?"

"I don't know, am I? Look, sorry, but no. I am not okay"

"Sooner or later you'll be"

"Easy to say, hard to do", I answer looking at the sky. 

I made a deathly deal, and I'm starting to pay for it.
