Tell me that golden statement
That everyone yearns
You can lie, you can joke—
What matters that it came from you.

Whisper to me delicately
Amongst the new fallen decade
That you cared, that you adored
Even though it's a lie or a joke.

All I ask is that significant statement
Coming from that significant, mellifluous hymn
Just lie to me, joke to me—
That you cared even once.

It's such a dumb idea, I know—
Yet all I want is that abrupt push
So what are you holding back?
Lie to me, joke to me— and I already and evidently know that I'm such a masochist.
