Chapter Twenty Nine

Bela's eyes become teary. She is about to hold Mahir's hand when Anu holds it and stands. Mahir immediately pulls Anu into a hug and Sumitra and Andy clap for them. Bela is very shocked realising Mahir is going to marry Anu.

Bela makes Mahir and Anu separate and holds Mahir's hand. She takes him to a nearby room and locks it.

Bela: Mahi ye tum kya kar rahe ho?

Mahir: Kya hua Bela? Tum aise kyu react ki?

Bela: Mai kyu react ki? Mahir mai tumhare biwi...

Mahir: Thi... Tum meri biwi thi lekin ab nahi ho na? Tum ab meri ek dost ho jiski responsibility meri hai. Usse zyada hamare beech kuch hai hi nahi. And pls Bela. Stop controlling me at least now kyunki abse mujhe control karne ka ya mujhpe apna haq jatane ka haq sirf Anu ko hai.

Mahir goes out of the room followed by a sobbing Bela. Mahir goes to Anu and holds her face.

Mahir: I am sorry Anu but i have a wish. Kya ham bina koi pre-wedding ritual ke, direct shaadi kare?

Anu: Haa Mahir... Sure. I would love it.

Sumitra: Toh fir kal rat hi Mahir aur Anu ki shaadi hogi. Mai pandit ji se baat karti hu.

Mahir: Wow! Chalo Anu hame shaadi ka shopping karna hai.

Andy: Mujhe bhi guest list banana hai.

Bela goes to her room silently as she is completely shattered. She sits on the bed crying. Soon she falls asleep. At night, Mahir comes to Bela's room and makes her awake.

Bela: Mahi mujhse dur mat jao na...

Mahir: Mai tumse dur kyu jaunga bela? Tum hamesha mere dost... Sabse acchi dost banke rahogi.

Bela: Mahi please ye shaadi mat karo... Mai tumhe kisi aur ke sath nahi dekh sakti.

Mahir: Come on Bela... Ye kya keh rahi ho? Mai Anu ko already promise kar chuka hu ki mai usse shaadi karunga. Wo mujhse bahut pyar karti hai. Aur use hamare past se koi farak nahi padta. Agar mai aaj uska sath na du toh kal mujhe pachtava hoga ki maine ek saccha pyar ko kho diya hai.

Bela: Aur mai?

Mahir: Bela tum dosti aur mohabbat me confuse mat ho jao. Tum meri dost thi, ho aur hamesha rahogi.

Bela starts crying to which Mahir wipes her tears and says, "Ro mat bela... Abhi tumhe itni takleef ho rahi hai toh kal agar tum hame khush dekhogi toh aur kitna takleef hoga? And jb tum mujhse pyar hi nahi karti toh ye sab kyu?"

Bela moves his hands and runs into washroom. Mahir sighs and leaves the room. He brings food for her and makes her eat. Bela silently eats without protesting.

After feeding her, Mahir goes to Anu's room.

Mahir: Anu you know that i am really interested in this marriage, right?

Anu: Haa Mahir.

Mahir: Lekin mai iss shaadi ke baad bhi Bela ka khayal rakhna nahi chodunga. Wo abhi bhi bacchi hai and she is my responsibility as well. So...

Anu: I trust you Mahir. Thank you for clearing everything. Mujhe koi problem nahi hai.

Mahir hugs Anu and says, "You are the best Anu. Do you know that?"

Anu: Yes i know...

Mahir: How?

Anu: Because Mahir hamesha the best hi choose karta hai.

Mahir: Oh being romantic?

Anu: Abhi kya dekhe ho? Kal se dekhna mai kitni romantic ho sakti hu!

Mahir: Accha? I am very excited.

Both laugh and hug each other unaware that Bela is listening to everything.

Bela goes to her room and thinks, "Mahir mujhe laga tum ye shaadi islie karna chahte ho kyunki tum mujhse dur jana chahte ho. Lekin pata nahi tha ki iss shaadi tum Anu ke kareeb jane ke lie kar rahe ho! Maine tumhe kho diya hai Mahi... I lost you completely!"

Bela goes to her cupboard and looks at the mangalsutra Mahir made her wear.

Bela: Bachpan se leke maine sab kuch apne hisab se hone dia. Sab kuch mere zidd ke according chalta tha. Lekin aaj nahi. Agar tum Anu ke sath khush ho toh you can marry her. Mai tumhe nahi rokungi.

Next day, the whole house is decorated and very close relatives of Mahir's family are invited to the marriage. Everyone are busy with the arrangements. Bela is sitting in her room with her eyes filled with uncontrollable tears. Anu goes to Bela's room and sees her. Seeing Anu, Bela wipes the tears and fakes a smile.

Anu: Mai andar aau?

Bela: Haa aao na Bela.

Anu goes near Bela and sits beside her.

Anu: I know ye jo bhi ho raha hai ye shayad tumhe bahut ajeeb lage. Lekin kya mai tumse ek request kar sakti hu?

Bela: Kya Anu?

Anu: Aaj sham ko mere aur Mahir ke shaadi me tum zarur aana. Mahir ko bahut accha lagega ki uske sabse acchi dost uske shaadi me hai.
