Bang!
Amelia Lily rolled over in bed and groaned. Her dad had dropped the kettle again.
‘3…2…1…’ Amelia counted under her breath.
‘CONNOR!!!’ her mum yelled, as Amelia pulled the pillows over her head.
Another new day, the same old argument, over and over again.
Through the pillow Amelia heard a lot of muffled shouting, judging by their voices her mum was swearing quite a bit.
With another groan Amelia swung her legs out of bed and picked up a fluffy jumper that had been flung over the back of a chair the night before.
She pulled the jumper around her as she walked across the landing to her younger sister’s room.
She tapped gently on the door before opening it.
‘You okay Rosie?’ Amelia asked. Her little sister blinked up at her tiredly.
‘Why mummy and daddy fighting?’ she looked upset. Amelia reached down and pulled her into her arms in a fierce hug.
‘You don’t need to worry Rosie!’ she walked towards Rosie’s princess bed; ‘You’re a big girl today aren’t you?’ Amelia dropped her younger sister onto the bed and sat down next to her.
‘What you mean melie?’ Rosie looked confused and tired; Amelia couldn’t help laughing at how cute it made her look.
‘Don’t you remember?’ Amelia feigned looking upset, but couldn’t help laughing when her sister folded her arms in a perfect impression of their mum when she was annoyed.
‘Come on Rosie, you must remember!’ Amelia laughed as she pouted. ‘Smile Rosie, smile!’ Amelia started to tickle Rosie and he face broke into a smile as she cracked up laughing.
‘No…no melie stop!’ Rosie cried in between giggles.
‘You’re going to school today Rosie!’ Amelia yelled whilst giggling.
The smile disappeared from Rosie’s face. She pushed Amelia’s hands away as she walked to the door.
‘Rosie? What’s up?’ Amelia was suddenly anxious. Rosie’s face was blank as she walked towards the door.
‘I need mummy,’ was all she said before she opened the door and ran down the stairs.
Amelia shrugged and followed her out of the room.
When she stepped onto the landing she heard the shouting stop. The sudden silence seemed to echo through the house, causing it to spin.
Amelia grabbed onto the banister of the stairs as she began to fall. There wasn’t anywhere to fall, but she fell anyway. Colours swirled around her head as she passed out with confusion.
