Final Goodbyes
It was over.
All of the pain that she saw him go through. That he had put her through.
It was over.
Eliza stood at her husband's bedside clutching his lifeless hand and trying her hardest not to wail in front of her children. The doctor shook his head as he watched the pitiful scene.
Her Alexander's dull eyes looked back into hers. She shut her eyes tightly. She could no longer look at him. Her mind immediately flashed back.
The letters they had written to each other. Him asking for her father's blessing, and the joy they felt when he accepted. Their wedding day, at her very own house. The war, and the relief that washed over her when he returned safely. Cradling their oldest son for the first time, and holding him for the last time.
The pain that she felt when he admitted to his affair. The ridicule she went through when he published the pamphlet. He never knew when to stop. He always put his legacy first.
Watching their oldest daughter slowly break. The comfort they both felt when Eliza chose to forgive in their times of need. The determination to keep going after Philip's death. That determination, that was so long gone now at her lifeless husband's side. She prayed it would return, but she knew it wouldn't.
When she opened her eyes again, for a moment she saw him.
She saw her dear husband staring back at her. Smiling. Another flash and they were in a field. She watched as her Hamilton raised his gun to the air. Burr shot. And she watched her husband collapse.
She couldn't stop the scream that ripped out of her throat.
Hehe short but I have to do the reunion one
