A/N: This is late cuz I fell asleep. Oopsies. Here you go!

First Letters

Eliza wiped away her tears. After all the years they had been together, her husband had cheated. But she couldn't cry now. She went through all of their old things and came across her wedding dress.

She was about to throw it into the fire, but decided against it. After all, one of her daughters could use it one day. She wrapped it up and put it in the 'keep' pile. Very few things remained in that pile. She wanted to throw everything in it. But she couldn't.

As she threw more things into the roaring fire, she came across a few envelopes wrapped up with lace. She unwrapped them.

Their first letters.

She began reading them. He was always flirtatious. And the way she spoke, or rather, wrote, you could just tell she was head over heels for him. Part of her still was. Part of her wanted to put everything back in the box, shove it under her bed and forget about it. Wanted to run into his arms and let him hold her again.

But she knew she couldn't.

She read through the first letter he sent her. Beginning with "Dearest, Eliza," and ending with "Yours, Alexander."

Yours, huh?

Oh, how things change over the years.

She wiped away more warm tears and continued reading. He was telling her how excited he was to be married to her. How he was sure he would be able to get permission from her parents, and they could be together forever. How no matter what it took, he would always be hers.

Eliza laughed. And to think, she thought that he was sincere.

Another letter thrown into the growing fire. Another opened and read. Another thrown away.

She opened the very last letter. He was so ecstatic. Their wedding day was soon. She would be his and he would be hers. Oh, how often he said that. Almost as if he was planning the affair beforehand. Almost as if he was hoping to break her heart further in the future when she looked back on these letters.

I'm watching them burn.

She threw the very last letter into the flame and threw everything else under her bed. She couldn't take it anymore. She curled up into a ball and wailed like a child. She always tried to keep a positive outlook, but this was too much.

Ever yours,
Alexander.

This was kinda rushed cuz of the lateness. Sorry! Hope y'all enjoy it anyway
