Cuddles

Eliza reached for Alex and cuddled him closer. Though it was only the first, it was still a cold December night, and Alexander was quite the blanket hog.

She heard his soft snores and somehow, they were like music to her ears. She cuddled his warm body closer as the cold crept in. She didn't want to take the blankets from him exactly, but she did seek an escape from the cold abyss on her side of the bed.

She rested her head on his chest and listened to his beating heart. The feeling of his chest rising and falling. But she was still cold.

Eliza finally gave in and took the blanket from him. He would probably be waking up any moment now, to take it back from her. They would fight over it all night until the sun finally rose and Alexander would leave again. She smiled at this, rolling to the other side of the bed and waiting for these events to take place.

He didn't take the blanket back immediately. But she no longer heard the snores. Perhaps he had just woken up, and he would be snatching the blanket from her grasp any moment now.

But he didn't. The room was still and silent without his snores. Maybe he was just waiting for the right moment to take it back? This thought remained in her mind as she was slowly lulled back to sleep by the warmth of the blanket.

The last thing she heard before she was overtaken by sleep was a creaking floor, footsteps walking farther away from her and down the hallway.

She woke up the next morning to an empty bed. Alexander had been replaced with a pile of pillows, covered by a blanket. This wasn't the first time this had happened. If only she had let him keep the blanket, maybe he wouldn't've woken up.

She sighed and got out of bed. Sure enough, there he was, sitting in a chair at the table surrounded by papers and fast asleep.

There was a cold mug of coffee on the table and he was absently holding a pen. He had fallen asleep while working, who knows how many hours. She briefly examined each paper. She always found herself doing this.

She found a few letters to and from Congress, and one that he had fallen asleep writing, addressed to a man she had never heard of before. James Reynolds.

I'm not even going to proofread this. I'm sure it sucks and it super short anyway. If I read it I might chicken out of publishing it so.

Anyways, this is the first prompt in the Hamliza prompt list.

Don't be expecting me to do a lot of these prompts, but I will try to do a few
