Darkwater and Silverpaw walked all the way to a small cave. Silverpaw instantly felt her excitement pulse through her. "Is this Mothermouth?" She mewed.
Her companion nodded. "We are crossing into the Clans' territory, but nobody can see us."
Paws tingling, Silverpaw raced to the cave entrance. After peeking inside, she immediately drew her head out. "It's dark." She whimpered as she thought of her walk in the forest.
Look at me, she thought miserably. Afraid of the dark. And to think I'd be well respected among the other cats one day!
Darkwater stifled a mrrow of laughter. "I've never met a single cat that would admit they were afraid of the dark. StarClan chose you well."
Silverpaw tipped her head to the side. Darkwater had been vague again. For once Silverpaw could understand Talonwing's constant ill-temper. How hard it must be, to try to get an answer out of these cats!
"Come on, Silverpaw. Don't try to look into the darkness of the tunnel. Instead, follow my scent." Darkwater motioned with her tail and padded into the tunnel. Trying her best to hide her fear scent, Silverpaw padded after the dark she-cat. On and on they walked, until they finally arrived into a small cave. Suddenly, the moon passed over the hole on the top and the cave was instantly filled by a pool of silver light.
Silverpaw couldn't hold back a gasp of surprise. "It's beautiful." she breathed.
Darkwater said nothing as she slowed to a stop. "Whispering Wind? Dark Shadow? Mystified Echo?" She called through the empty darkness.
Again, Silverpaw couldn't hold back her surprise as three she-cats stepped out of their waiting place. Their pelts were so faint and misty, Silverpaw wouldn't have been surprised if they were blown away by the wind. "You have come." The white and silver tabby meowed.
Dark Shadow dipped her head. "I did what you asked me to do. How did you know she would wake up in the Dark Forest?"
So that's what it's called! Silverpaw thought with a jolt. Before today, she hadn't even realized such a horrible place had existed. Now, she regretted wanting to know.
"The Place Of No Stars seemed like a likely place for cats like her." Whispering Wind replied.
Place Of No Stars? A likely place? Silverpaw felt a shiver run up her spine. The Dark Forest is definitely StarClan's enemy in some way, by the sound of it. Could that be a place cats would go if they were denied entry into StarClan?
Gulping, Silverpaw returned to the present. Whispering Wind and her companions were looking at her in a mysterious way. Silverpaw stared at them back, not willing to back down and become a coward. A gray she-cat on Whispering Wind's right side gave a weak smile.
"StarClan chose you well, Silverpaw." She mewed.
