Silverwing woke up the next day feeling super refreshed. In her head, she was practically singing I have a telepathy mentor! over and over again.

I have a telepathy mentor, I have a telepathy mentor. Nothing's gonna get in my way because I now have a telepathy mentooooooorrrr!

"Hey, Silverwing!"

Silverwing looked up immediately, momentarily distracted from her internal singing. It was Lilypaw. Silverwing acknowledged her with a smile and a quick wave of her tail. "Hi," Silverwing meowed. "What's up with you today? You seem very cheerful."

"I'm going to receive my medicine cat name today!" Lilypaw sang. I'm super excited! Her mind whirled. I wonder what my new name will be.

Hmm, how come it just occurred to me that cats sing, internally or externally, when they're happy. I wonder why. Actually, no, it makes sense. Why are my thoughts so crazy this morning? Silverwing shook her head, trying to clear it.

"That's wonderful!" Silverwing said. "Congratulations!"

Lilypaw grinned, but then her smile faltered. "You're ...you're not reading my mind right now, right?"

Silverwing stood and stared at her friend in shock. "I...how..." she stuttered, still not believing what she just heard.

Lilypaw sighed. "So Talonwing's theory was correct."

"His --his theory?"

"He thought you might be a mind-reader." Lilypaw replied.

And he was right, Silverwing thought. But how?

Actually, it still makes a little sense. I was practically reading his thoughts and saying them out loud, for StarClan's sake. But still, I'm sure anyone, especially Talonwing would be wondering how this all happened.

And it all happened because I left by myself after a Gathering to go and listen to Darkwater about the key to my destiny or whatever. Then I bonked my head and almost died. Well, not really, but still. I got my mind reading powers. But that only happened because I bonked my head and almost died. So that would make the telepathy "genetically passed down" a little bit weird, since, well, I wasn't born with it or anything. But what if I was born being prone to getting my telepathy? Rippling Waters never told me how he got his powers. What if he bonked his head and almost died too? Arrgh, I wish he told me!

But...mind reading has brought me so many troubles. Would things have been better if I hadn't listened to Darkwater? Aside from the fact that Darkwater would probably be nagging me forever, maybe things wouldn't have been so bad. I wouldn't have needed to worry about strange thoughts all the time. Or about anything strange, really. Maybe my "lost Clans" problem wouldn't exist either. Go figure!

But then again, I feel like I am able to understand and sympathize more and more with my Clanmates when I use my powers. I have more patience training Seedpaw now that I know he's just trying really hard to win the approval of others. Swirlpaw and Wavepaw seem like they just tease their brother for the sake of teasing their brother every chance they get, but on the inside, they're just really worried about him and are concerned whether or not he's capable of becoming a good warrior.

Silverwing sighed. If she was given a chance to get rid of her mind reading powers, she would've said yes eagerly a few moons ago. But now, she didn't know. Yes, having them was a real hassle, but they also proved to be extremely useful.

Lilypaw tipped her head at Silverwing curiously. "I'm not mad," she said. "That must be so cool, though. Do you get to hear everyone's thoughts? What about Mistfeather and Grassripple? Do they kn-?"
