4:15 a.m.
That was what the time read. It was early, but Rider only felt a little drowsy. He sat in the loveseat in the living room staring off into space.
It was now New Year's Day, and his team and Goggles' team had long since gone home, and now he was left with nothing to do. They had a fun night, but now the apartment was a hopeless mess.Rider sighed, shifting his gaze to the boy asleep on the couch.
Goggles was in a strange, uncomfortable looking position, but he looked peaceful. He had been asleep since before midnight, even though he talked so much about how he was going to stay up all night. Rider had turned his back for two seconds and suddenly Goggles was passed out on the couch. Bobble had put a party cone on his head, but now it had fallen off onto the floor.Rider couldn't help but smile as he got up to fix the blanket that was over him.
He turned back around to see the awful mess again and felt discouraged from trying to clean. He decided that since Goggles was sleeping he wouldn't want to wake him.I'll do it later... Rider thought.
He then looked outside, and watched as snow slowly fell on the busy city. The lights and distant fireworks painted a colorful image. He decided to go out on the small balcony outside the apartment to get a closer look, and also because he could use a breath of fresh air.
Rider shivered at the cold, but brushed it off. It felt nice. He closed his eyes as he felt the chilly air brush against his dark skin. He began to stare off into nothing again, watching the lights of the city dance mindlessly.
He didn't know how long he had been out there when he heard some shuffling behind him.
"Rider..?" Goggles rubbed his eyes as he held a soft gray blanket around him.
"Hey, love. Did I wake you?" Rider asked as he turned around to greet his boyfriend.
"You left the door open, so I guess the cold air woke me up. It's okay, though." Goggles said as he stepped onto the balcony with Rider.
They both leaned over the railing, admiring the view. Goggles wrapped half the blanket around the other, snuggling in close to him to keep warm. They were silent for some time.
"I think this was a good year." Goggles said suddenly.
"Oh, yeah? What was so good about it?"
"I dunno. It was just... Good. It was also another year with you." Goggles looked at Rider, staring at him intently.Rider felt his face heat up a little at the comment, but kept his composure.
"Then I guess this was a really good year for me, too." Rider said while smiling. He returned Goggles' loving gaze and cupped his cheek, rubbing his thumb against his face. Rider couldn't help but notice the tips of Goggles' nose and pointed ears were more blue than usual, the cold gently nipping at them. The snow softly fell on his cute face. He noted the other's freckles and soft lips.
He'd really like to kiss those lips.
"Yknow, I never got my New Years kiss because you decided to conk out." Rider teased.
Goggles giggled and rolled his eyes before saying, "Well, If it's not too late..." Goggles slowly leaned in closer to the other.Rider closed his eyes, bringing his hands down to hold the other's waist. He felt his lover's breath dance on the outskirts of his mouth as they grew closer, finally closing the gap with a loving kiss. The kiss was passionate, but only lasted for a few moments. Goggles broke the embrace for air, still holding Rider's face close to his.
"I love you," Goggles started, "I love you so much, it hurts."
Rider felt breathless at those words, taking a moment to gather what to say.
"I-I love you, too. I love you more than anything." Rider said as he pressed his forehead against Goggles'.They stayed quiet for a moment. Rider spoke up first.
"Happy New Year, love."
"Happy New Year, Rider."
