VIC’S POV (about six months later)
I woke up in my bed at around 6:50 a.m. on a beautiful Thursday morning. Lindsay and I had agreed a few months prior that she would spend a week with me here in California after she was done with school. I was actually supposed to pick Lindsay up from the airport in a few hours, and I didn’t really need to be awake yet. I couldn’t help it though, I was so excited to see her again that I couldn’t possibly go back to sleep. I had gotten plenty of sleep anyways, I was all set. I just wanted to get Lindsay as soon as possible.
I got out of bed and went downstairs to get something to eat. I grabbed a bagel from the bagel drawer, put it in the toaster, and waited for it to cook. After a few minutes, I took it out of the toaster, grabbed the cream cheese, a butter knife, and went out onto the patio to eat. After I ate, I threw the knife in the sink, put the cream cheese away, and went to take a shower, grabbing my phone off my nightstand as I went in.
Whilst in the shower, I heard my phone go off. Assuming it was Lindsay, I jumped right out of the shower, still all soaped up. To my excitement, it was her, telling me she was about to board the plane, and she would be there in a couple hours. I literally lost my breath from excitement, only a couple hours until I could see her again. I got back in the shower, finished washing myself, and then went downstairs to quietly watch tv to make the next couple of hours pass.
LINDSAY’S POV
I boarded my plane safely, although I was still scared shitless. I hadn’t been on a plane since I was four, but I wasn’t alone. Now, fourteen years later, I was traveling on a plane by myself, sitting next to two complete strangers. One of them was a woman, who looked very…bussiness-lady-like, I suppose. She was wearing a pinstripe suit, and had fancy jewelery on, and had her hair all up in a fancy way. She looked like a business woman to me. And then the guy next to her was obviously on vacation. He had shorts on, a Hawaiian-print shirt, and sunglasses. Even though these people looked innocent and nice, I was still scared. I wasn’t one for social interaction, unless I knew the person. I hoped neither of them talked to me for the two hours I was to be on this plane.
“So, miss. Where are you headed to?” Yup, totally jinxed it. The lady next to me stared at me, waiting for an answer.
“Uhm…San Diego…” I was very quiet when I said it, it was a surprise she still heard me.
“Oh, San Diego! Very nice city! Any particular reason? Or just to get away from everyone?” She seemed every enthusiastic about this.
“Uh…I’m visiting..a relative. Yeah. That’s it…” I lied. What was I supposed to tell her? That I was visiting a friend who just so happened to be a lead singer of a very popular band that she probably never even heard of?
“That’s what they all say dear,” she winked at me, and went back to whatever it was she was doing (which was just sitting there), and I was glad that she was done talking to me.
I let out a sigh of relief, took out my book called Dealing with Dragons, and began to read for the remainder of the trip.
And in what seemed like only a few minutes, the plane landed in Los Angeles, and we were let off the plane.
Once I got in the airport, I was automatically scared out of my wits. I was in unfamiliar territory, and I had no idea where I was going. I looked all around me, and found where we were supposed to pick up our suitcases. I stood there until my simple black suitcase with an “Of Mice and Men” sticker on it showed up. I picked it up, drew out the handle, and dragged it to an empty seat near by. I got my phone out of my purple carry-on bag, and sent Vic a text.
To: Vic
Hey, I’m here. Where are you?
Immediately he replied, not a surprise.
From: Vic
I’m near Terminal 8, where are you?
To: Vic
I’m at Terminal 3, I’m sitting away from the plane-entrance.
From: Vic
All the way on the other side?! Looks like I’m gonna have to speed walk over.
To: Vic
Please hurry, I’m scared and I don’t know what to do. How am I supposed to find you?
From: Vic
Don’t worry, I’ll find you. I’ll see you soon!
I continued to people-watch as I waited for him to show up…I really hoped he would be here soon.
Vic’s POV
I literally sped-walked to Terminal 3, pushing people out of the way if I absolutely needed to. Once there, I looked everywhere for Lindsay, but I couldn’t see her anywhere.
To: Lindsay
Hey, stand up real quick, I can’t see you anywhere!
And then there she was. The tall beautiful girl I saw six months back. She was wearing a black Pierce the Veil sweat shirt, some sort of green and grey striped v-neck underneath, grey sweatpants, and flip-flops. Her hair had grown out a little bit since the last time I saw her. Even with her outfit so simple, my heart still skipped a beat when I saw her. I took a big gulp and ran over to her.
“LINDSAY,” I yelled at the top of my lungs. She barely had time to even see me before I attacked her with my arms. I gave her the biggest hug, and didn’t let go for at least five minutes.
“Uh, Vic…Vic, I can’t breathe,” she whispered.
“Oh, sorry….oh my god, you have no idea how happy I am to see you right now.”
“I’m glad to see you too, but can we get out of here? I don’t like places like this, they scare me.”
“Yeah, sure. Let’s get the fuck out of here.” I smiled and held my hand out. She grabbed it without hesitation, and we were on our way to my car. Without thinking, I intwined my fingers with hers, and didn’t let go until we got to my car.
“So what time did you have to get up this morning?” I asked after we got in the car.
“I got up at eight this morning, my plane wasn’t until ten-thirty.”
“Wow, I completely forgot about the whole three-hour time change that we have. I was still sleeping when you got up.”
“Wow, it’s only almost ten?! It’d be one back at home!”
“Yeah, weird isn’t it?”
“Really weird…”
The rest of the two and a half hour ride back to my house was filled with small-talk about random things. Once back at my house, I told her to leave her bag in the car, there was no point in taking it out.
“Uh…why am I leaving my bag in the car?”
I had completely forgotten to tell her we were leaving to go camping right away.
“Oh, right. Well I need to grab my bag and we’ll be all set to leave.”
“You mean we’re going camping today?”
“Well, it’s not really camping, we’re going to a small cabin just outside of town. But yeah, we’ll be leaving in a few minutes. Do you want to come inside, or stay in the car?”
“I’ll stay in the car, I suppose.”
“Alright, I’ll be right back.” I ran inside to grab my bag. Once I grabbed it, I threw the bag in the car, grabbed my keys, locked the door, turned the car back on, and we left.
I had just remembered that I didn’t leave a note. The boys knew where I was going, just not who I was with. And they didn’t need to know either…
