I like him.

-

"You know Donghyuck, you have pretty cute bedhead."

"You know Mark, you're pretty annoying."

Mark frowned at the sleepy boy, who was currently searching through his fridge.

"If you keep being mean to me I'll start calling you Stuart again."

"Ugh okay."

The older smiled to himself but erased it as soon as Donghyuck turned around to him. He pouted cutely and whined,

"You don't have any good food."

Mark frowned and went to inspect his fridge.

"What do you mean? There's plenty of- oh. I guess I haven't been to the store in a while."

"I'm hungry."

"Get on your coat then."

Donghyuck rushed to get his coat and joined Mark in light bickering on their walk to the nearby store.

"By the way, why were you walking around so late at night?"

Mark stumbled for a moment, surprised by the question.

"I like to take walks to clear my head, and I was on one when I saw you run out of your house."

"Oh."

"Why didn't you talk to me? I asked you why you were crying and you just got into a strange car and drove away."

"Because I barely knew you! I still don't really know anything about you, Mark."

Mark hesitated.

"There isn't much to know about me, I guess."

"Lies."

Donghyuck pouted as they entered the store. He ran up and down the aisles, picking out only junk food as Mark tried to convince him otherwise. The younger pestered him to tell him more about himself the entire time, and finally Mark gave in.

"God, fine. What do you want to know about me, anyways?"

Donghyuck's face lit up like the sun, his arms spilling over with food. The two kept searching the aisles for snacks, bickering and sharing random trivia.

"My mom calls me a lion sometimes."

"Really? Mine calls me fullsun!"

"That's cu- that's cool, I guess."

Donghyuck winked at Mark, nudging him playfully.

"Were you going to call me cute, little lion?"

Mark looked at the ground to hide his pink cheeks. He grabbed a large watermelon from the produce section, not giving the other an answer. When he finally looked back up, Donghyuck was looking at him with an unreadable expression on his face.

"What?"

"We're getting three bags of chips, seaweed, chocolate, and... watermelon?"

"What! I love watermelon!"

Donghyuck laughed in surprise. "Well, okay then. Watermelon it is."

Mark grinned and led them to the checkout area, where they bickered over who should pay until the younger male cheekily gave in. After returning home, they put away all of the groceries and bickered lightly until it was nighttime.

-

It was almost eerily silent in the house until Donghyuck spoke through a mouth of toothpaste and foam.

"You know, Mark..."

He turned to the other, who was methodically brushing his teeth beside him.

"Hmh?"

"You're really not all that bad."

Mark spit out his toothpaste and furrowed his brows, rinsing his toothbrush off and setting it down.

"Were you expecting me to be horrible or something?"

"Well, no, but-" Donghyuck gargled some water and spit it out, and he looked strangely vulnerable for a moment.

"I guess, I just didn't think you'd be this nice."

"Oh. Thanks?"

Mark eyed the younger with curiosity, as he suddenly seemed to be exhausted.

"Are you okay?"

"I can't be a bouncy ray of sunshine all the time, idiot."

Donghyuck rolled his eyes, but without spite to it, and walked out of the bathroom, Mark close behind him. He followed him into his bedroom, where the younger promptly pulled his shirt off.

Mark yelped and turned around.

"Yah! I didn't follow you in here to do- to do that with you!"

Donghyuck retorted mockingly, pulling on one of his own large white shirts.

"Yah! I wouldn't want to do that with you anyways. Privacy, hyung!"

Mark kept his back turned even when he was already fully dressed for bed, his cheeks slightly pink at the new sight of Donghyuck shirtless.

"Wah- are you blushing because you liked what you saw?" The younger teased cheekily, climbing into his bed.

"N-no, I. Uh, goodnight Donghyuck!"

With that, Mark awkwardly left the room, closing the door quickly behind him. Donghyuck looked at the shut door with wide eyes.

"Wait, does that mean he did?"

He expected to feel smug, but he only felt weirdly... happy. Hopeful, even. Donghyuck tried to wave the feeling away to no success, and laid down to sleep.

As his eyes closed, behind them he saw Mark, who loves watermelon, who's mother calls him lion, and who turns pink when he's shirtless.

He uneasily pushed the thought out of his mind, determined to get to sleep. His legs curled up against his chest and his breathing slowly evened out.

"Goodnight, little lion."
