neighbor/friendship au + Tanjirou x Kanao

There's just something off about Tsuyuri Kanao that when she stood outside her apartment door, looking like a soaked puppy, Kamado Tanjirou just had to take her in.

Cold - was what Kamado Tanjirou had first thought when he slithered indoors through his apartment foyer, attempting to catch warmth inside. He has just finished discarding this week's second bag of rubbish, and it turned out it was raining outside. It's not uncommon to rain in Japan during winter. It makes the breeze a lot cooler, and the good thing about it is that he isn't obliged to take a shower.

But sometimes, he just hates it when the weather is too cold. It draws him to the corner of his thoughts wherein images of blood-soaked clothing scattered on top of a thick sheet of ice resurface in his mind. Winter just lives out the emotions it carries; sullen and sad.

"Looks like it'll continue pouring for a while," he mumbles to himself and finally closes the door behind him as he makes his way to his living room and slumps on his seat. Pieces of paper along with a variety of colored pens and an open bag of chips adorned his lovely sofa, barely having any space for him to sit down. He's decided to pull another all-nighter to finish studying for his major exam next week. Lucky for him, it's Friday so he wouldn't have to wake up early tomorrow.

I just wanna remind you I won't be home today in case you freak out and start calling the police saying I was kidnapped. I'll see you tomorrow, onii-chan.
P.S. I left my laundry upstairs. :'D

"Dear me."

Tanjirou couldn't help but chuckle upon reading the message that greeted him as soon as he opened his cellular device. The apartment was lonely without his little sister around, but he's more than happy to let her loosen up and have fun hanging out with the people she like. He couldn't let himself get too worried about her now that she's on her way to becoming a grown woman.

And because he is the best brother in the world that anyone could ask for, he picks himself up and heads for the upper floor of the complex, proceeding to get his little sister's belongings that are probably already soaked and dripping with rain water for a good twenty minutes. Although, he halted himself the moment he opened his apartment door. A miniscule movement caught by his peripheral vision made him stop on his tracks and diverted his attention to it.

"Kanao?"

His voice seemed too tiny for the petite girl to hear him while she rummages with the stuff inside her shoulder bag. She must be looking for something. Her hair looks damp and the butterfly hairpin that's kept intact with her ponytail looked lifeless and limp.

"Kanao!"

He must've startled the poor girl as she flinches, turning her head to his direction. Her face looks dead tired, yet some sort of a blush tintend her cheeks; Tanjirou couldn't help but notice.

"Are you okay? Do you need some help?"

Tanjirou was taken aback when she rapidly shook her head, declining his offer.

"I can handle it. Thank you."

He felt slightly disappointed, not that he'd ever say it out loud in front of his neighbor who had bathed herself under the heavy rain.
