Chapter (3)
Callidus paced anxiously around the lower deck, Enya sitting on a barrel, hugging her knees. The two didn't know how long they had been in hiding, but it felt like an eternity. "I think I'm gonna be sick.."
Enya flopped over on her side. The lower deck of the Earworm didn't have the nicest smell, especially with them being stuck down there so long with horrid memories of their friends being helplessly slaughtered.
But there was nothing Callidus could do to help the mouse. He felt the same. There was a loud sliding sound as the trap door to the lower deck slid open. Callidus immediately grabbed an old rusty spear lying on the ground, prepared to fight this time.
But the crow was thankful to see that it was just Osiris, along with Maeve and Boris, a brown coyote just a year older than Callidus. Callidus sighed, dropping the rusty spear. Osiris closed the door back up, slithering towards the middle. He was pretty scratched up, but alive and armed. Enya hopped down from her spot, listening attentively.
"Just you two here?"
"Just us. Arlo.. disappeared.." Enya shuttered. The snake patted her back. "Well at least we're safe. Though it was a massacre out there, we'll have to form a plan and meet up with the other survivors." Callidus nodded. Though he was a coward out in battle, he was determined to make up for himself and get his revenge.
"We should wait till morning before we do anything. They'll most likely be gone by then."
"But then what?" Maeve replied to the coyote, cocking her head. "We need to take the ship as cover. Though it attracts attention, tomorrow they'll be gone, and we can fly it and get everybody on board. We can then find a new location." The crow was certain.
"But none of us even know how to fly an airship. And we shouldn't risk our most valuable transportation just yet." The viper sternly replied. "Well," Enya spoke up. "Callidus, don't you have some experience..?" She timidity asked. The crow blushed with embarrassment. "What is she talking about..?" Osiris grumbled.
"Well, Serein offered to give me some lessons-" Serein was the captain of a smaller airship the rebels used to own. Osiris irritably sighed. "Not the time. Well Callidus, guess you're our best bet for a captain."
"Okay, then when we go to get the others he should stay with one other on the ship in case of emergency. The rest of us should go bring back the others." Maeve contributed. Oddly enough, Callidus actually agreed with her.
"Alright, so there's five of us. Two of us should stay, three of us should go." Boris said, determination in his voice. "Who is most confident in their fighting's abilities?"
"I'm going." No one was surprised, since Osiris was much older and stronger than the others.
"Me, too." Enya stuck out her chest proudly. "Are you sure..? You could get seriously hurt or-"
"I'm sure." Enya assured the nervous crow, placing a paw on his wing. "Okay, and I'll go, too. Maeve and Callidus, you two are staying." Boris ordered. Callidus nodded.
He didn't like Maeve because of her annoying personality and since she was bad at making motors, but he couldn't be too picky with the situation the rouges were in. "So its a plan." Osiris confirmed. "Sounds good to me." Enya said positively.
"Yeah. One day we'll gain our freedom. One day we'll be able to speak and practice as we wish. One day I'll have the neck of that wretched, corrupt government official in my talons-"
"Anyways, who's hungry? I saved some bread." The snake interrupted the crow, pulling out a loaf of bread from his coat pocket.
The whole group immediately recognized their hunger. They had been stuck in the lower deck for quite some time. Maeve clapped her paws. "Awh yeah!" And so, Osiris distributed bread for the whole group to share. Though it wasn't much and it was stale, they were thankful for what they got.
"Good luck, everyone. Until we're free." Boris announced, getting ready to curl up and sleep. "Until we're free." Osiris and Callidus repeated.
And so, everyone curled up onto the hard floor and slept. Well, all except the crow. He stood guard, hell bent on protecting the group.
He wouldn't be a coward this time. He was ready for war.
