Veronica's POV
From the distance I could see police cars, ambulance trucks pulling up into the pavement drive way. I saw see a semi truck pull up as I saw Brent's dad jump out of the car and rush over to the scene. I looked over to see Brent run up to his dad and hug him tight as he cried in his fathers arms. It was too bad that I didn't have that anymore. I lost both of parents so close together. I had no idea what to feel or how to react to everything that happened around me other than the fact that I'm grateful to be alive as well as I'm grateful that my brother is alive. But I'll never know what happened to my mom or my step father. I'll never know if my biological father actually killed himself or was actually murdered. A paramedic man came up to me and wrapped a blanket around me, Zander was helping me walk so I wouldn't fall. I had forgotten all about my ankle that it didn't hurt as much as it did before.
"Where are your parents?" An officer asked. My brother didn't respond, he was just staring at the ground
"They..they went missing..in that house..I-I don't know" I said. I couldn't speak and I couldn't even complete a sentence
I knew he wouldn't believe me. I knew that even after this my brother and I would be consider suspects by many people and the authorities but despite all the non sense I was probably saying he did something I never imagined an officer doing.
The officer then hugged me and my brother and although we didn't know this man we needed the comfort of an older adult so we hugged him back. He told us he believes us and he'll have his partner go into an investigation. It made me feel less crazy that he believed me. Eddie and Brent walked over to me and hugged my brother and I. Sonia walked up to us and hugged us as well. Zander turned around to face her and hug her as he cried onto her shoulder. That same night police had taken Sonia to her family first and then to police station for some questions, took Eddie and Brent down to police Including my brother and I. They asked us how long we lived there and when was the last time we saw our parents, all the questions I imagined would be asked. We were there for hours, I felt comfort being down at that station in the city with more people and more lights that I clearly did not want to go back to the country side anymore.
"How long have you guys been living there?" The officer asked as he took notes
"..it's only been a month" My brother said
"When was the last time you saw your parents?" The detective asked as he wrote things down in his notepad
"We saw my mom..in her room.." Zander trailed off as he looked at me
"I saw my dad..being dragged down into a..into somewhere" I said as I looked down at my lap
Sonia soon reported they guy and they arrested him. The same guy that was the youngest sibling of the smith family that had gone missing for thirteen years ago. He wasn't sent to jail as we didn't press charges as a matter of fact we all decided it'd be best that he'd go to a mental institute so he can get the help he needed. Sonia told us he said he was always out there, that girl I saw in my Brent's backyard once did something to the poor guy. He never explained how he went missing, Sonia says she wished she had asked but couldn't because that's when Brent knocked him out.
My wonder is what if what happened to him happened to my parents. What if they're still out there and we just can't see them. I told the detective about the door on the floor in the garage. That was where my father was dragged into. She soon told them that he had attacked her and Brent and Zander as well.
After that night we stayed at Brent's for a few weeks. I found out just by doing research and believe ir took me weeks to find any information i was so ready to give when I finally came across some links online that a young girl did in fact die in that house fifteen years back, her mother poisoned her food to sacrifice her daughter to Satan himself. I soon realized that the silhouette I saw across the field that day after barley moving in was the same guy who attacked Sonia. Brandon Smith.
Police began investigating they tried looking everywhere but they soon told Zander and I that they couldn't find any signs of my parents anywhere in the house. No bodies were anywhere to be found. Not even the door that I had mentioned, investigators told me it was just a crawl space and I felt all hope gone. I knew in me I was never going to see my parents again. My brother and I soon came to terms that worse had did in fact happen to my parents and we just learned to accept as it is.
Three months later had passed after what had happened to the four of us. Zander and moved back into the city but later moved across states. Zander decided to move to Sitka, Alaska, I told him he didn't have to but he did anyways. I moved to New York. A year later Brent and I got into contact again as I had remembered that I gave him my number and I never changed it since then.
Seven months went by and we started dating. He was still living in Virginia and so was Sonia, I soon went back to Virginia to meet with Brent and a lot had changed. He dyed the tips of his hair blonde, lost more weight after what happened a year prior. I didn't have much contact with my brother anymore since then. That house is what tore us apart as siblings. I still have his number but he never calls so I don't bother to call him either.
I don't know his career now but mine is journalism major. I was at Iowa State University and then moved back to New York for another year and then moved back to Virginia back into the city once again where's its safe. Sonia has started her own business at some local coffee shop as well as the city she had a major in cosmetology. Brent has a major computer science.
From there and on, I always wondered what happened to my parents and I wondered what would've happened if my brother hadn't open the door. I could never get that through my head but the curiosity will end up killing me soon...
