Kai pov

We were under siege.

A Kaiju had been spotted off the coast of Hong Kong heading our way. This sent the Shatterdome into a frenzy.

I stood with the rest of the cadets in a line in our quarters. I could sense my ADHD kicking in but tried to fight it. Time ticked by until my Mother joined us in the room.

"A category 3 Kaiju has been spotted heading our way. We need you to bunker down and stay out of the way of the Jaeger Pilots until this is all over" she said with a straight face.

We all lost it.

An entire room full of yelling teenagers is not something that would be high on my list of fun things to experience. I was the only one to see reason. Except for Jenna for obvious reasons. We just stood there, side by side, until everyone stopped yelling.

I took a while but we got there in the end. Quiet settled in and I made my way to leave. "I'll be in the gym" I called over my shoulder, both at my mother and at Jenna. We all know that most cadets prefer to stick with their partner, and Jenna was no exception.

I strolled through the empty corridors, the sound of my footsteps echoing off the walls. I soon rounded the corner that leads to the gym and stood in front of the door.

I placed my hand on the scanner to the side and walked through. I scanned the room for something to do. My eyes focused on the pool.

I bounded over to the body of water and sat on the edge. I held my hand out tried to summon a pillar of water.

Nothing.

I frowned and closed my eyes. I reached inside for the reason I could control water and came up with, you guessed it, nothing.

My eyes flung open and I reached for Εκλειψη. My fingers grasped the pendant and I pulled it from my pocket. I pressed the dragon eye and my sword sprung free. I held it against my left wrist and cut.

The blade passed right through.

Fear clouded my mind and I sprung from my position at the edge of the water. I sheathed Εκλειψη and scurried to the door. The door opened and just as Jenna went to place her hand on the scanner. I grabbed her shoulders and pulled her inside.

She yelped in surprise and tried to free herself from my grasp. I held firm

I looked into her eyes and she stopped struggling. She saw the fear that clouded mine. "Jenna we have a problem," I said as my eyes started to swell with tears.

"I-I-I'm Mo-mor" I managed to spit out before a pain in my left wrist began to sear. I passed out onto the Gym floor straight away.

I awoke in the hospital wing with Jenna and my Mother by my side. I switched to a seating position. "What happened?" My mum's head flicked up.

"You passed out from a cut vein. The nurses say it was a suicide attempt" she said with tears at the corners of her eyes.

"It wasn't a suicide attempt, I was- I was testing something," I said looking at the scar on my wrist.

Jenna snorted, "yeah, testing how to die." I stared at her.

"At least my partner in crime cares about me," I said mockingly. I shook my head and started explaining.

I told them about my inability to bend water, the Celestial Bronze not affecting me until Jenna walking into the room.

"I didn't walk into the room, " She commented. I looked in her direction and smirked. She rolled her eyes and looked to the ceiling. I shook my head and continued.
