You looked back at your boyfriend's house— wait, no. Ex-boyfriend's house as you cursed under your breath. The whole point of your friend Clary driving you to his house was so that you could manage a quick getaway after you broke up with him.
It was previously a warm, sunny day — until a wave of ominous-looking clouds overtook the sky. Now, all of a sudden, it was pouring down freezing rain. The weather perfectly reflected your dreary emotions after just having gone through a dramatic break up. You'd been stuck standing outside on the sidewalk for the past 20 minutes in the downpour, waiting for Clary to come pick you up.
With no umbrella and fairly thin clothes, you were reduced to a freezing, shivering little ball of cold. You texted Clary as soon as you had gotten out of your ex-boyfriend's house. And yet, she still hadn't answered. After what felt like years of waiting, you felt your phone buzz from its spot in your jacket pocket. It had to be the only thing on your body that wasn't entirely soaked.
sorry, y/n, i can't come get you. something came up with bucky that i really can't miss :(
You felt like you could scream, but you did try to keep your cool. Still, you let out a loud groan of frustration, wishing Clary was better at seeing things all the way through. She wasn't one for following through with plans, but despite all her faults and the anger you felt now, you knew you still appreciated the girl and her friendship. And you knew for sure that whenever anything Bucky related came up— she was at his side in seconds. After all, Clary told you everything, and her crush on Bucky was something you had to hear about all the time.
However, you didn't appreciate the weather app on your phone that predicted today's climate incredibly incorrectly. Today's sky was supposed to be filled with bright sunshine, with a few dots of clouds that reminded you happily of cotton candy. You found yourself daydreaming about the warmth that the sunshine had brought you earlier in the day, and you were wishing you could return to basking in the golden rays.
Your hair was soaked, and it dripped frigid water onto your phone. You took one look back at your ex-boyfriend's house, considering going back inside just to escape the numbing cold. But, no. You couldn't. Not after what just gone down.
Another idea came to your mind. Maybe you could... walk home? You shook the thought away as quickly as it came. It was much too far for you to walk. It was more likely that you'd collapse from hypothermia before you made it. You hugged your arms to your chest, still holding your phone while trying to stay warm. It, however, did absolutely nothing for you.
You hastily tried to think of someone, anyone, who you could call. Suddenly, a name came to mind. While trying to stop your hands from shaking, you slowly and deliberately typed in Tony Stark's number. At this point, your hands were so numb it was impossible to move them quickly.
You shivered again, your entire body shaking and your teeth clattering uncontrollably now as you put the phone to your ear. Thank the gods it was waterproof, otherwise you'd really be screwed. It rang once, then twice, and suddenly there was an answer.
