Prologue
"You did what?!" Maria asked her newly wed husband. "You're going to tell me that when I thought my best friend was gone, what had really happened was you froze her." Howard was sitting on the couch of their new house, afraid to open his mouth. He knew he shouldn't have kept it a secret from her... actually he didn't. "You FROZE her Howie!" She sat down across from him, resting her face in her hands. "You're going to unfreeze her." She said calmly, not even bothering to look at him. He shouldn't have argued, but even the world's smartest man, is a dimwit sometimes. "I can't do that." She looked at her husband, eyes glaring at him so that they were piercing his soul. If looks could kill, he'd be dead thousands of times over.
"Except, you're Howard Stark. Billionaire, genius, ex playboy, philanthropist. And if you don't do this, then your gorgeous, amazing wife will leave you." Howard looked at her, waiting for her to be done. "Maria. I love you, I really do. But if I wake her up before the time is up, then everything will go to hell and she could die." Maria sighed, finally understanding why he didn't tell her. She didn't like this. She didn't like her best friend being frozen and her not being able to do anything. She didn't like that she wasn't there for her friend when she needed her most. But she needed to trust Howard. And she did, with her heart and her best friend. After all, he is a genius. "How much time does she have left?" Maria asked him. "10 years."
