It was now the next day, and the whole ranch was gathered around, listening to, Charlene's mother, Pat, talk about her childhood and memories she had of her. I looked over, and noticed Troy staring at me intensely, but as soon as we made eye contact, he looked away. He had took the bandage off his eye, and it was all swollen very badly, with two curved lines just below his eye. I didn't feel any remorse though, the guy was an idiot.
"She wouldn't be dead, if she didn't risk her life for the unprepared." she said, then everyone turned around at looked at us.
My blood began to boil, so before I caused any destruction, I got up and stormed off. But, Troy also got up, and ran after me.
"Hey Grace, wait!" he shouted, jogging up behind me.
"What do you want?" I spoke, not interested in arguing at the moment.
"You ok?" he asked, sounding genuine.
"Not really." I laughed due to the stupid question.
"What's up?" he questioned.
"Why do you suddenly care about how I feel?" I said in a harsh tone.
"You said I could talk to you about anything. I assumed that meant you could tell me everything to?" he said, sounding confused.
"Yeah Troy, but the difference is, I'm a trustworthy person, your not." he looked slightly hurt by my harsh words.
"If your worried about who shot down the chopper, we are gonna find out who did it, and make this right." he told me, in a soft voice, which surprised me, considering he had his tough, military man act on just a few minutes ago in front of everyone. But when he is with me alone, he acts like a pretty normal guy, apart from when he sneaked into my cabin when I was sleeping.
"You coming to lunch?" he asked.
"Yeah." I replied, and we walked over to lunch together.
"Hey, you ok?" my mom asked, as I separated from Troy.
"Yeah, just lost my temper, that's all." I replied, I had never been a person with a very long temper even before the dead started coming back to life.
"Why did Troy follow you, are you guys friends?" my mom questioned, suspiciously.
"Best to keep your friends close and your enemies closer, am I right? I replied. She nodded, seeming proud at my manipulative ways.
I turned around to get my knife and fork, an a man walked past,
"Murderer." he mumbled.
"Excuse me?" I said, trying my best not to kick off.
"You know the fable The Ant and the Grasshopper?" he began before I cut him off,
"What's your problem?" I spoke up, causing people to stare, then Troy walked over.
"Don't even think about speaking to Miss Clark like that Adam, after everyone is finished, your washing up all the dishes. You understand!" he yelled, defensively.
"Yes Sir." he said, but before he could scuttle away, Troy grabbed him by the collar.
"What do you say to Miss Clark?" he said, dragging the man over to me.
"I am very sorry, Miss Clark." he gulped, looking terrified.
"Forgiven." I answered simply, I gave Troy a nod, and he walked off.
"They should be harassing Troy not us." I mumbled to my mom.
"I think they would if they knew what he had done. But i think i was right when I said he likes you." she replied, laughing a bit.
