The Ocean

Leila pulled herself on top of a stack of flat boulders that overlooked the ocean. Roaring waves crashed against its base, splashing salty streams of foam up in the air.  Standing meters above the rocky shore, the girl in the red dress bent down and extended an arm out for the man before her.

Yoongi, struggling to climb up the rocky terrain with two ice cream bars in one hand, grabbed the girl's hand in relief. He hoisted himself atop the flat boulder. The crisp wind whisked through them, picking up his silky hair and whipping it chaotically in multiple directions. Yoongi ran a hand through his strands pushing them away from his eyes, a habit he picked up from Jimin. The girl in front of him had turned away from him. She daringly stepped to the edge of the rock, arms stretched wide as if she was inviting the dark shadowy sea for an embrace. Her short hair thrashed aimlessly in the wind as she tilted her head towards the sky, eyes closed and lips stretched in a childish grin. She took in a deep breath, her shoulders flexing up with her motions and relaxing as she exhaled the crisp air audibly.

Yoongi raised a brow at her childish actions,  stepping next to her. "What a goofball," he muttered under his breath, lowering himself to sit on the chilled surface of the boulder. He  swung his legs over the ledge, looking up at her. "Are you acting out a scene from a movie?" he teased with a chuckle, reaching out to take her hand, he pulled her down next to him.

"Maybe," Leila replied with a playful grin, swinging her legs over the ledge just like Yoongi. "I just really like everything about the ocean." She said with a shrug, her eyes glistened as she looked out at the endless stretch of water before them.

Her smile was contagious. "Is that why you wanted to come here?" he asked, handing her a plastic wrapped ice cream bar they bought from a 24 hour convenience store on their way here. It was the only thing that was open at this time of the night.

Leila ripped open the packaging, taking out the chocolate dipped vanilla bar by its wooden stick. Despite the droplets of condensation that speckled the hardened chocolate exterior, it still felt chilled to the touch. She had pulled out the ice cream bars from deep within the freezer, knowing they would be frozen solid and would stay that way longer in the warm air. A trick from her childhood, when the sweltering sun would beat down on her skin and the two dollar coins would jingle in her pocket. Enough money for two frozen popsicles for her and her kid brother. She frowned faintly at the memory, glancing towards the man next to her.

His gaze was on her, expectant of a reply to his question. Something about him, maybe it was the way he was looking at her, made her simply better. Leila's smile returned on her lips.

"Yeah, I like the view," she replied. "I found this place last night while walking back to my hotel. I wasn't really in the greatest of moods. And... I dunno..." she trailed off looking up at the sky.

Leila slowly laid back onto the cold stone, reaching out an arm towards the sky as if she wanted to touch it. "Climbing these rocks, listening to the waves, and looking up at the stars as I laid here made me feel better." She shifted her gaze to look at him again. "Although, the stars are covered today."

He was still looking at her quietly. There was a look in his eyes Leila couldn't describe. His gaze was warm yet it felt as if it cut through her. Leila raised a brow and snapped her fingers in front of his face. "Take a picture, it'll last longer," she teased with a chuckle.

Yoongi smiled looking away. He lowered himself down, laying next to her. "I just might," he replied nonchalantly as he folded his arms beneath his head.

Leila propped herself up on one arm, looking down at him with a questioning look. "You don't even know my name yet."

Yoongi turned to his side, resting his chin on his knuckles as he met her gaze. He wanted to reach out and push the hair out of her face. "I won't if you don't tell me."
