"GET BACK HERE NURSE BARREN!" The commanding soldier yelled. It was quite difficult to hear over the gun fire and explosions.
"As I've said before commander! I have other patients in more serious conditions! I have tended to your wounds and will return tomorrow to check on them!" Her voice was loud. She had to put extra effort on to speak since she couldn't normally.
The man glared at her but said nothing. She took the chance and ran down the tunnels to find men who were in desperate help. She saw some with cuts and bleeding a bit nothing very serious.
She continued down her path and landed at the end near the front lines. That part was strictly forbidden for her entering as she was only a nurse.
Over the corner she spotted a man that had no arm. She raced over seeing the soldiers screaming her over.
As she arrived it was clear to see that he had it blown off.
She ripped a badged from her bag and tied it around to end to stop the blood pouring out. She knew she couldn't sew it up here as it would be infected with all the dirt and grime now.
"Do not take this off understand!" She yelled at him. Her voice was just enough to be heard.
He nodded and let out a groan of pain when he moved it.
"I'm gonna try and disinfect it. It won't be 100% clean but it's better than nothing" she told him.
She saw him the men had been cleared off by a sergeant and it was now just them two.
She took her stuff from her bag and began to clean out all the dirt and mud on his arm and around it. She couldn't go into the wound due to the bandage and if she removed it, it would bleed out.
Once she tended to his wounds she slipped away. She could afford the chance of getting close to any of them. She knew it was a game of chance if they were to survive.
She ran down the tunnels to see if she could find any men who desperately needed her.
Evelyn slowed down when she heard a strange noise. The rest of the men also stopping there movements to listen. The noise was a sharp scraping noise.
It sounded like someone had used there fingernails on a chalk board. The men soon figured out what the noise was as did the young nurse. She ran down the tunnel trying to outrun the bomb.
Men screamed to get down or to hide but hardly anyone was listening. They were too focused on surviving.
Evelyn was about to reach the end when it landed a few yards from her.
It all happened in slow motion. She turned on her heels and ran the opposite way. Though she knew she wouldn't have enough time.
She was soon blasted back from the force and thrown across the fields. She hill which rolled her down and into a field full of rocks.
Her head smashed against them and spun she was out. The impact was so strong that she didn't wake up. She didn't wake up for a year.
