After the girls trip to the market they said goodbye to each other. Ada said she had some meeting with her family so she had to leave. When Evelyn got home she started to work on her dinner. She wanted to make home cooked meals. She loved cooking and singing more than anything. So while she cooked she hummed a turn softly.
Further into the night the streets soon began to make a racket. She guessed it was just men drunk.
When Ada and Evelyn were out she had told her that the streets were often filled with drunks and prositutes.
Evelyn ignored the noise but stopped when a loud banging came at her door. It was loud and persistent.
Evelyn huffed in annoyance and began to walk over. She threw her apron on the side as well as wiping her hands on the tea towel.
"I'm coming!" She yelled as she made her way over.
Unluckily for her the person didn't stop banging.
When she opened the door she immediately smelt the amount of pollution in the air. The coal factory was right next door making it even worse.
"Hello?" She said not looking up.
A part of her dress had been ripped causing her to look down at it and fiddle. She knew she was being rude by not looking at the person but she was too distracted.
Suddenly a coin was thrown at her feet Mali her frown and look up.
"Two bo-" the gruff brumie voice cut itself off once the two of them made eye contact.
Evelyn's mouth parted ever so slightly as she sucked in a deep breath. She felt her lumps going weak from looking at the man.
The man had a cap on that was slanted to the side showing what looked like razors sewn into them. The wore a three piece that hugged his muscles. He had a toothpick in his mouth that seemed to almost fall out when he saw Evelyn.
His eyes were the thing that got her attention. They were a very soft baby blue that made her swoon on her doorstep.
"I-Erm" the man began to mumble.
Evelyn blushed slightly and smiled at him making him smile as well.
"Erm hi" the man eventually said to her.
Evelyn giggled slightly and held out her hand for him.
"Evelyn. Evelyn Mikalson" she told him in a whisper.
It was as if all the other noise in Birmingham had gone and it was just them two. It was just the man and woman who were so star struck with each other.
Evelyn never believed in love at first sight. But now that she was staring at the man who was still to reveal her name it was as if her whole perspective changed.
"J-John. John Shelby" he told her with a cheeky smile.
He took her hand which covered her small one and shook it gently.
Evelyn could have sworn she heard that last name before. She brushed it off though and focused on the man at her doorstep.
"Well John Shelby what can I do for you?" She asked kindly.
Johns cheeks turned red slightly and he cleared his throat straightening out.
"We're having a fire later on. If you've got any pictures of the king bring them down" he told her then pointed down the street to where it would be.
Evelyn nodded her head smiling when he faced her again.
"I'll bring it to you especially" she told him smiling slightly.
John relaxed a breathily laugh and arched an eyebrow at her.
"Well I erm. I better be off. I'll see you erm later Evie" he said and began to walk backwards.
Just as he turned the corner and away from her house she managed to register the name. She smiled like a crazy person and closed the door.
She leaned again the door and shook her head smiling.
No one had given that name to her before.
She couldn't help but smile at the thought of seeing John Shelby again later.
