"Wait so I have a husband?" She asked slowly.
Her mother nodded her head and put the picture down. Evelyn ran a hand through her hair frustrated. She couldn't remember anything past 1913.
She was surprised when her mother told her she was 24 and not 17. She couldn't remember past 7 years of her life.
"Had. He died the second year into the war" she told her daughter.
Evelyn nodded and sighed. She nodded to remember.
"Did I love him?" She asked quietly.
She wanted to know if he meant something to her. In the picture both yours faces were blank. She guessed her dad had married her off due to her being catholic.
"Your dad arranged it" was her mother's only answer.
Evelyn chuckled and rolled her eyes. She was right of course. Her father controlling her life like it was his own. She wasn't even surprised when he wasn't home with her mum.
"Of course. As he always said the touch of a man is what any woman needs" Evelyn rolled her eyes.
Her mother pursed here lips making sure not to bad mouth her husband. Even though they had been married it wasn't love. It was for money. And that money created Evelyn.
"Anything else I should know?" Evelyn asked her mother.
Her mother opened her mouth but shut it just as quickly. She was obviously hesitant to tell her the next news.
"Mum? You okay?" She asked her quietly.
Her mother looked up from the ground with tears in her eyes.
"It's Danny. He erm. Something happened to him last year" she spoke carefully.
Evelyn already knew what was coming. Danny was a tunneller in the war which was obviously the most dangerous job. Do when her mother spoke of him in the manor she was she knew he was gone.
"He's gone isn't he" she said to her mother.
Her mother nodded her head as she tried to keep her tears in.
Danny was her twin brother. He was a kind and gentle man that all the ladies desired. He would treat everyone with the most upright respect. Now the only good thing Evelyn has in her life was stripped away from her.
"I need by I go" she spoke quickly.
She got of her bed and grabbed her coat. She ran out her room and down the stairs of her mansion.
She didn't want her mother to see her cry. She didn't want to seem weak.
So she ignored her calls and ran out the house. Her feet were still bare but her coat covered her nightgown she was wearing.
The streets of Liverpool were like any other. They were dirty and grimy. So she tried to get where she wanted as fast as possible.
The lake her and her brother went as kids.
