Since Evelyn was knew to Birmingham she didn't have many possessions. The house she bought had supplied all her furniture as well as some necessities.

It had however a painting fo the king hung on the wall. It wasn't big but wasn't small either. It hung in the hallway and every time she looked at it she had an urge to take it down.

So when the mysterious John Shelby told her about the bonfire she couldn't resist going. It also gave her an excuse to see him again.

As the night turned dark and midnight struck the grand clock, Evelyn took the picture down from the wall and made her way over.

As soon as she stepped out the house she saw all the other people in the streets taking the paintings down and running down the street.

Some people had multiple ones making her think that the more they had the more meant they would earn.

Evelyn wasn't thick either. She hadn't forgot about the bob that John threw at her feet. She remembered him saying "two bo-" then he stopped talking when he saw Evelyn.

She guessed he was going to say that he would pay her for the picture. Mind you everyone in Birmingham was on the verge of poverty. So when she saw multiple paintings in some peoples hands it didn't surprise her.

As she walked over to the fire she noticed something bazar. There were men in the back corner that all looked similar. They dressed the same and weirdly had the same stone cold expressions.

They all wore caps that had the same razors sewn in like johns had. They had expensive looking suits on and cuffs that surely weren't cheap.

Evelyn scanned the men trying to find the one who had told her to come.

She finally spotted him as he walked over to another man. His eyes were like johns but more fierce than johns.

John handed him something before throwing some paintings in the fire.

Evelyn began to make her way over to him and smiled when John looked over to her.

Evelyn stood out from the women in small Heath. Her clothes were rich and face clean. Her small dainty fingers were painted and manicured to perfection as they curled around the painting to hold it.

Her dark hair bounded at the end as it was curled from when she got out the bath. Her black dress had jewels sewn on making it glisten under the fires glare.

John was immediately captivated by her not even listening to what tommy was saying to him. He was only focused on the beautiful girl walking to him.

"John!" Tommy snapped him out his trance.

John turned to him and gave a quick mutter of a goodbye before walking over to Evelyn.

She stopped halfway and waited for him to come to her. She but her bottom lip trying to hide her smile.

"Mr Shelby" she greeted him with a smile.

John have a lopsided one back and winked making her giggle.

"Miss Mikalson" he said back to her.

Evelyn started into her baby blue eyes trying to stop herself from swooning right there and then.

"I Erm brought the painting" she told him suddenly remembering the slightly heavy object she was holding onto.

John took it from her inspecting it giving a chuckle.

"How'd you even have one? Thought you just moved in eh?" He asked slurring in his brumie accent.

Evelyn shrugged her shoulders "it was already in the house when I got there" she told him.

"Fair enough" John muttered.

He chucked the painting into the fire making everyone laugh and cheer. Evelyn smiled at the sight of the people.

Even if they had nothing the city seemed to bring everyone together. It was nothing like her home. Everyone was rich so they were often rude and kept to themselves.

Evelyn liked the knew change.

"How bout I show ya the garrison. it's a great pub?" John asked holding his arm out.

Evelyn giggled and took his arm wrapping hers around his.

"I would be delighted mister Shelby"
