Hi everyone! Thanks so much for 11.3K reads! As a thank-you, I decided to update sooner since I missed so many. I just want to let you guys know that the rest of January is going to be insane for me because of midterms, so I probably won't update as much. I'm so sorry and I hope that in February I'll be able to make it up to you guys. The song above is Heaven by Troye Sivan, who I mention in this one-shot. It's one of my favorite songs and the message is just so powerful and important. I would love it if you guys listened! Finally, this chapter is dedicated to @fairytalescript because they gave me so many ideas for future one-shots, including this one! A huge thank you to them!!! Sorry for the long author's note- I just had a lot to say! I hope you enjoy this one-shot!
"So kids, before we take the quick fifteen-minute quiz, I'd like to introduce the newest addition to our class," my English teacher, Ms. Blackwood said, glancing out the door. "He should be here any minute."
Quiz? My brain tried to keep up with a million thoughts at once. Of course there was a quiz the day I sped through the reading and didn't even bother to check SparkNotes. This couldn't get any worse.
"Nico, quiz me, quick," Rachel, the girl who sat behind me whispered.
"I didn't-" I started to reply hastily while trying to recall any small detail from the chapter I should have read.
The door swung open, and my attention immediately turned over there. In walked a tall boy with beach blonde wavy hair, an easygoing smile, and a very deep tan. My first thought was, wow, he's really tall. Next, I registered that the boy was really hot. Like, wow. Finally, I turned my attention to To Kill A Mockingbird, while trying to speed read.
"Do you want to introduce yourself, Will?" Ms. Blackwood asked, shuffling the quizzes. I desperately tried to glance at the papers to see whether it was multiple choice or open-ended. As soon as I saw blank lines, my heart dropped in dread. I was about to fail this thing. "You don't have to do it."
"I can introduce myself," Will replied, grinning. I looked at him again and before I could start staring, I turned my attention back to my book. Quiz first, then hot guy. "So my name's Will Solace and I moved here from California. I like to surf and I want to be a doctor when I grow up. Uhh, yeah that's it."
"Thanks for sharing, Will," Ms. Blackwood said, showing him his seat. "We have a quiz right now, so you can leave your stuff here and leave the classroom until I call you in."
"Sure,"
I watched his retreating form- along with the people in my class who were attracted to guys. I'm sure they were thinking exactly the same thing as me. Is everyone that hot in California?
"If you did the reading last night, this quiz should be very easy. Facedown when you're done," Ms. Blackwood instructed us, passing out the papers.
Once I received mine, I began reading the questions, hoping for an opinion question or something I could make up. No such luck. I was almost tempted to look at Drew Tanaka's paper since she sat right in front of me. Then I remembered that she wasn't the type to do the reading either. I was screwed.
Fifteen minutes later, the timer Ms. Blackwood had set for our quiz rang. I finished scribbling my last completely random answer and walked to the front of the room in dread. Plopping my paper face down on her desk, I realized that today was not going to be a great day. I could just feel it.

"Nico, right?" a voice behind me said. It was right after English, which meant lunch. I was walking down the hallway to go to my locker so I could put my books away. After that, I would go have lunch with my friends Jason, Percy, and Piper.
