"Hey man, super sorry to wake you up, bu-" I began, but Joe quickly cut me off.
"Ha, wake me up? It's New York baby, what kinda geezers sleepin' at this hour?" He mused.
What the hell was this man even talking about. He confused more often than not. I simply grumbled and rubbed my temples.
"You are one crazy bastard." I stated. "It's 5:30 am, everyone is sleeping."
He didn't respond, instead I heard a deep groan come from Joes end of the line, causing me to scrunch my nose in disgust.
"It hurts." He whined, his voice sounding girlish for once. "Tammy, stop biting me!"
Was he...?
No. I quickly pushed the thought of Joe having sex with a woman named Tammy out of my head.
"What the hell are you doing?" I cringed.
"Goat yoga, you should try it. Tons of hot girls here." Joe suggested casually. "Plus, you get to name your goat. I named mine Tammy."
I rolled my eyes and chuckled at how weird he was. I think he'd be the only thing I'd miss about this city.
"I think I'll have to pass on that one." I laughed, and probably a little louder than intended.
Dani's eyes fluttered open and her brows scrunched up in a cute manner.
"I am so sorry," I whispered to her before leaning down and kissing her forehead. "Go back to sleep."
That was all it took for her eyes to slowly close and her to fall back into a deep sleep. I took that as my cue to go in the other room and finish my conversation with Joe to avoid waking her up again.
I tiptoed into the kitchen before speaking again.
"So why'd you call?" Joe questioned as I heard a goat 'bah' loudly in the background.
"I'm going back to California." I stated plainly.
There was a brief pause on the other end of the line before I heard him left out a loud breath.
"Phew, good." He responded in a relieved tone of voice.
"What?" I was slightly offended.
"That sounded bad, but that's not how I meant it." Joe quickly clarified. "I've been waiting for you to go back so I can go see the west coast without paying for some house and yada yada yada, all that fancy stuff."
I simply laughed in return. Of course.
"Alright man, well I'm heading back to bed, I'll talk to you later."
