The sun fell across a cathedral. A rarity to find in a vampire kingdom, but specially made at their king's request. It was a small, simple thing--a means of welcoming a god that most did not worship, but it was especially appreciated by their princess, Aliyah.
Inside, Princess Aliyah hugged her legs close to her chest as she sat on one of the pews. With a sniffle, she buried her face in her knees. She was there to be alone, not wanting to be bothered by anyone. It was just a little too much for her and she needed an escape...
It would not last, though.
A ray of golden light fell on her. Whatever thoughts of pity and sorrow cut short by this sudden happening. Following it was a scent that was unfamiliar to her. She picked up her head, covering her eyes as she tried to find the source of it.
A figure slowly descended from the heavens, "Ah...I am to be a guardian to a vampire? Unusual, but I must say..." It appeared to be an indistinguishable orb of golden light. Aliyah only remained in place, perplexed. The light faded slightly as the shape cocked its head to the side, "Ah, you are unfamiliar with my kind. Which form would you prefer I take?"
"I-I'm sorry?" Aliyah asked, confused, though her voice cracked when she spoke. Her lavender eyes were bloodshot, a testament to her recent crying.
"Hmm...perhaps something a bit more humanoid. People tend to be more responsive to that." The voice said, shifting and taking on a new shape. The golden light faded, revealing that it had changed.
Where an otherwise indistinguishable form of light now stood a young man. He had dark skin, pale blonde hair, and dark blue eyes, wearing a robe with a crown and cross on it. On his back were two silvery wings and in his hand was a shepherd's crook.
Aliyah's eyes widened in shock and she slowly set her feet on the floor. After a moment, she managed to choke out, "Oh my god....you're an angel...."
"I am. My name is Soterasiel...but 'Siel' will do for short." The angel said, "And I am to be your guardian angel."
"A guardian?" Aliyah asked. "I don't understand."
"I was sent by a divine power to keep an eye on you, to ensure your wellbeing." Soterasiel said.
His words sparked something in Aliyah. Something...less pleasant. She stood up and glared at this angel, "For my well-being? Or because of what I've done?"
"It was nothing for what you've done." Soterasiel commented, holding up his hand, "A guardian angel's job is to protect an individual, no more, no less."
Aliyah walked out from the pews. "Pardon me if I'm having trouble believing that."
"Believe it or not, I'm bound to you for life." Soterasiel said, following after her.
"Perfect. Just what I need." Aliyah growled, sarcastically, as she walked out into the hallway of the castle.
"Is that snark I sense?"
"I don't know. Is it?"
"I believe you would be better aware of what you're saying."
"And I believe you have no right to tell me what I should do." Aliyah walked towards the tall double doors at the end of the hall.
"Watch that first step." Soterasiel said, playfully.
She stopped for a second. The first stair on the other side was a bit loose. She had been tripped up by it on her way there. Against her best effort, she snickered a little.
"An angel with a sense of humor...maybe you'll be interesting to keep around." Aliyah said, knocking on the doors.
"And a vampire with sudden mood swings. It'll be interesting to be around you, for now."
