"Hey baby!" Erica comes in and kisses me.

"Wassup?" I casually reply.

She frowns, "What's wrong?"

"Nun."

I'm glad she leaves it at that and doesn't continue talking because I'm really not in the mood. What Monique told me last night has been weighing heavy on my mind. To be honest, I really thought she was over a nigga. She walks around like everythings all good and perfect, I would've never thought that was an act.

"I have a doctors appointment on Monday. Do you think you'll be out then?"

"I don't know."

Forreal, I'm not excited Erica is pregnant. She was just a girl I wanted on my side because a nigga gets bored. She's a good fuck and she cooks, but it was never my plan to have a baby with her. I've always wanted Monique to have my first baby. Erica even told me she was on birth control, she lowkey sneaky.

"Why you being so fucking rude Dejour? I'm your pregnant girlfriend and my hormones is all over the place. You ain't helping at all." No this bitch didn't

"Fuck outta here with that bullshit, Erica. I just got shot and all you worried bout is ya self. Leave with your negitive ass energy please." She huffs and stomps out of the room like a damn five year-old. I laugh and press the nurses button.

"Hello, Dejour. Monique called in sick today so I'll be covering for her." Damn. I wanted to see Mo.

"Ight. When can I get outta here?"

"Let me go check with the doctor," she replies and walks out.

I need to see Monique before I leave. Just one last time. Her and I may never see each other again, so I just wanna spend some time with her.

"Dejour, it looks like you can leave right now. Do you need to book a flight back home?" The doctor asks.

"Uh no, actually I was hoping you could help me with something. I need to know where Nurse Monique lives."

He raises his eyebrow and then smirks, "You love her."

"What?" I say, caught off guard.

"Boy, you might be fooling everyone else around here with your bullshit, but I can tell you love that girl."

I crack a smile, "I didn't realize it was that obvious."

"Don't worry about it, just go find her. This is the address," he shows me it in his files and I write it down.

"Thanks, man."

"No problem, you be safe out in the streets now," he tells me and I nod.

After they discharge me and give me all my stuff I call a cab and head over to Monique's place. It's in a real nice apartment building that doesn't look cheap. This girl is really serious about her money now.

"May I help you sir?" An employee asks as I walk into the lobby.

"Yes, I'm looking for Monique Rodriguez's room."

"It's the second penthouse to the left. Room 545."

"Thank you," I say, walking onto the elevator.

As soon as I get up to the top floor I get nervous. What do I even say to her when I see her? There's so many things I wanna say, but don't know how to express my feelings. Standing in front of her door, I bring my hand up and knock.

"Be right there!" I hear her call. "Hello-Dejour?"

"Aye, ma."

"What are you doing here?"

"They said you called in sick today, but you look fine to me?"

"I needed some time off."

"Or you just wanted to avoid me," I point out.

"Come inside and stop being a smartass," she steps aside to let me in.

"Hey, Jas," I wave once I notice she's here.

"Uh, hey?" She replies, caught off guard.

"Why are you here again?" Monique asks.

"I need to talk to you," I shrug.

"I'm just finna go shopping, see y'all later.." Jasmine says awkwardly and leaves.

"Dejour-"

"No, Monique, I let you talk yesterday. It's my turn," I cut her off. "I was discharged from the hospital, but it was almost like I didn't wanna leave. I've just had this feeling for a while like I'm missing something and when I came to the hospital the feeling stopped. I realized what I'm missing and it's you. It's always been you. Admitt it, this is love. We're twenty something years old still stuck on each other. Obviously, these feelings ain't going away! I know I have a 'girl' and shes pregnant, but that wasn't my intention at all. I wanted my first kid to be with you, that was all I dreamed of."

"I love you," she tells me with tears streaming down her face. I get off the couch and pull her into my arms.

"Make love to me before you go, one last time, please." I don't respond, I just carry her to the bedroom and do exactly as she wishes.

Happy endings are just for story books, honestly. What Monique and Dejour had was never going to be a happy ending. No matter how many times fate brought them together, it was never enough for them to actually be together. They were better off as individuals, working on their careers.

Monique is still doing big things in New York. She went back to school to receive her PhD and is currently working on starting her own doctors office with a friend. She has actually met a nice guy, Jason. They have been dating for several months and things seem to be going good. She will forever have Dejour in her heart, but she can't dwell on him forever. God told her it was time to find someone and she did.

Dejour and Erica had a beautiful babygirl, Elisa. She is turning one in a few months and is already talking a little bit. Dejour decided it was best him and Erica not be together and just co-parent. They are still friends for the sake of their daughter and everything is going well. He can't help but think of Monique everyday. After he left New York they talked on the phone a lot and facetimed to keep in touch, but lately it's stopped. He's seen she is happy on instagram so he leaves her be, but its hard.

These were two people who were completely different, but somehow they found love. Monique was just an innocent girl and Dejour was the thug. Opposites attract, they say, and it's true. They most definetley loved each other, but sometimes you have to love one from a distance. The way their lives were set up, it just didn't work.

But one things for sure, Dejour will always be considered Monique's Thug.
