"Hello? Yes, I need those for tomorrow. Drop them off around three o'clock. Thank you, bye." I hang up the phone and let out a huge sigh.
Making these last minute plans for Makayla's Sweet 13 is seriously the hardest thing ever, but I have nothing better to do with my life. It's going to be a huge event, about two hundered people will be coming. From all her friends, family, and random people it all adds up.
"Mo?"
"Oh, hey," I smile at Dejour.
"Wassup?"
"Just making the last plans for tomorrow, how about you?"
"Back from work early. You wanna do somethin'?" So tempting.
"Naw, but thanks." What the hell was that, Monique? Just say yes to the boy!
He simply nods and heads upstairs, "Wait..Dejour?"
"Hm?"
"I guess we could do something, I have nothing better to do." I shrug and put all the party stuff away.
"Let's go pick up Kay from school and go shopping," he suggests.
"You spoil that girl," I joke, but nod and follow him out to the car.
"I'm liking this new gold range."
"Thanks, I saw it and just had to pick it up," he shrugs with a laugh.
I let out a laugh too, "Of course."
Then it got quiet. Minutes passed by and we still didn't say a word to each other. I really wanna ask him about going to Atlanta, but I don't know how to. What if he gets mad and thinks I'm putting my other life before my real life? I just miss working, and making my own money. Not depending on my babydaddy to buy me shit.
"You comin' in to get ha'?" He ask when we pull up to the school.
"I guess.." I trail off, stepping out of the car.
"Dejour?" I quietly say and he looks at me, waiting for me to say something.
"What do you think about..maybe, uh going down to Atlanta for the summer? Y-you don't have to say anything right now, just a suggestion.."
He laughs. This nigga laughs. I'm over here scared as fuck.
"Monique, why did you get all weird on me? I mean that'll be cool, if I don't gotta work. You miss ya' peoples down there?"
"Well, not exactly. I miss working at the salon, and I guess I miss my people too. Everyone just accepted me, no questions asked."
"But they didn't know the real you. Didn't that bother you?"
"A little, I guess."
"Hello, welcome to Lislen Middle School, may I help you?" The office lady cut off our conversation as we entered the builiding.
Oh, good old Lislen. I kinda miss it here. It was pretty fun, especially Mr.B's class, I might have to visit him. I've never really been to the middle school, but it looks the same as the high school, just smaller lockers and different workers.
"We're here to pick up Makayla Carter." Dejour responds before I can even acknowledge the lady.
"Oh, I'll call up to her class right now," she says then heads over to the phone.
Me being nosey, I try listening on their conversation, but don't here much. I just know Makayla's not in class. Deja vu is definetly flashing over me, I don't want Makayla to end up anything like me when I was in high school. I simply didn't give a shit, and look where I am now.
