"I hate dressing up." Momo complained. She was still wearing sweatpants and sports bra from her earlier workout.
"It's just a dinner." Sana sighed. "Now please make yourself presentable." Momo let out a loud groan, grumbling small, nonsense complaints as she walked to the shower. After an hour, both girls were done up, Sana dressed in one of her better dresses. Momo decided to opt for black, stating that this corporate dinner was going to be the death of her creativity of the night. "Calm down." Sana sighed while grabbing the open ends of her jacket.
"But your work people sound like they are the most boring people in the world." Momo complained.
"Hardly. It's an airline. We have interesting stories sometimes." Sana smirked.
It was everything Momo had hated. Manners, boring people, the only great thing about it was the food. At least they sat at the table with Sana's closest work friend, Joohyun with her daughter, Eunji, who were the most interesting people there.
"So do you do the same thing Sana does?" Momo asked her.
"Yes and no." She answered with a smile. "I do the flight schedules with her, and I approve the schedules she makes. But I handle more..." She looked to Sana for help, trying to explain her job.
"She's like my boss but not my boss so she has more responsibilities." Sana explained for her. Momo nodded, still unsure of what they did anyway.
"Sana tells me you are a dance instructor." Joohyun smiled. "Eunji has been wanting to dance, what do you offer?" She asked. Momo smiled, looking at the little girl who was now slightly blushing, and dove into different classes she offered, even private lessons.
It wasn't an entirely boring dinner, until their bosses started talking, giving speeches about different people who worked there. Momo tried her best to keep focus, but it was near impossible with how boring they were.
"I swear every year... The older they get, the worse the stories get." Joohyun whispered to Sana. "Last year, David forgot what he was talking about. That's why this year he's retiring." She continued.
"He looks ancient... Just the other day I saw him make a cup of coffee, put it in the fridge to cool down and proceeded to make another cup because he forgot." Sana chuckled.
The two continued to chat quietly, Momo looking down at Joohyun's daughter who looked just as bored as she did. She let out a huff, poking at her plate with her fork. Momo decided to play a quiet hand game with her to keep herself occupied.
"Mommy..." The little girl whispered.
"Hang on sweetie. Mommy's talking." Joohyun whispered.
"I'm bored." She frowned.
"Me too kid." Momo sighed. Eventually the girls grew bored, and decided to wander away from the crowded space with the little girl. Of course with approval from her mother.
"You are dating mommy's friend?" Eunji asked her.
"Yes. She's my soulmate." Momo answered.
"My mommy's soulmate is a lady too!" She giggled. "It used to be my dad but he's sad." She frowned. Momo looked down at the little girl, seeing the sadness in her eyes. Both of her parents peeled, which meant she had a chance as well... It was a sad world really. But sometimes, people got extremely lucky.
"Well.. You just have to do everything to make him happy." She smiled.
"I do! I draw him pictures!" She smiled while skipping down the hallway, holding Momo's hand. "I have to pee...." the little girl frowned. Momo looked around, both of them hunting down a bathroom. She waited outside the restroom, seeing many girls come and go. All of them looked like snobs really. She really didn't understand how Sana worked with people like this all the time. At least she had Joohyun who was the most nice.
"Did you see Joohyun with her kid? Why would she bring her daughter to this? We get it. You're a single parent." One of the girls scoffed. Momo stayed quiet, hoping the little girl wouldn't hear the horrible words coming from the women.
"Yes. She's already corrupting the new girl. Poor thing. She had so much potential." Another woman sighed.
"She honestly looks like she's some rich chick who just got through school with her looks and money." The first girl scoffed again. Momo's blood was boiling at this point. Eunji had left the stall, and was washing her hands under Momo's watchful eye.
"Look. I don't get where you guys come off from, and I get it. New people are intimidating." Momo started. "But that new girl spent hours upon hours studying for the degree she has and practically killed herself to get into the schools she went to. So if you want to keep talking trash about someone who worked hard for where they are in their life, I hope you get what's coming for you." Momo glared. The women both looked like their souls had left their bodies, unaware of the guest in the restroom with them. "Come on Eunji. Your mom is waiting." Momo mumbled while holding out her hand. The little girl took her hand, following her out of the restroom. When they got back to the table, Eunji hugged her mom, giggling as she started talking about her little adventure with Momo.
"What's wrong." Sana whispered to Momo. She noticed that she was agitated, but Momo brushed it off, looking away from everyone.
"Mommy... Your friend's soulmate yelled at ladies in the bathroom." Eunji whispered. Sana's eyes widened at the little girl's remark.
"You did what?!" Sana whispered.
"They were saying terrible things about you both." Momo growled. "I wasn't going to sit there and let them do that." She glared. Jooohyun looked down at the table, a slight hint of sadness playing across her face.
"She heard... Didn't she." Joohyun frowned at Momo.
"I... I don't know..." Momo sighed.
When the dinner was over, it was a silent ride home, both Momo and Sana staying quiet. When they got inside, Sana watched as Momo slipped out of her heels, taking the pins out of her hair, letting her dark hair fall down her back. Her hand ran through the rest of it, massaging her scalp from being free of the bun prison.
"You stood up for me." Sana finally spoke.
"What else was I going to do? Listen to it and let it eat me alive?" Momo frowned at her. Sana smiled, biting her lip as she walked to her girlfriend. "What?" She frowned.
"I don't appreciate that you snapped in front of a kid... But... I'm happy you did." She smiled. "Thank you."
