Chapter 19. Zhan - The Deal!

Zhan had finally found a solution for the sleeping situation after all, one that everyone could handle. His cousin got the guest room, Seo Joon the bedroom and Zhan, who noticed that the couch folds out, took the sofa. So nobody had to share a bed and everyone could be happy.

The days together with Xiao Lan ended abruptly on Friday when Zhan received a call from his agency. He was given a new mission. He had to follow a target suspected of murder. Unfortunately, they couldn't send or assign anyone else because there was a flu epidemic going on and almost half of the agents in the field were incapacitated. And not only that, they acquired Seo Joon after consultation with his agency and made him a partner of Zhan, because they didn't want to let Zhan chase after a murderer on his own.

Seo Joon on the one hand reacted annoyed, because his vacation was cancelled, too. On the other hand, he was also proud that such a high agency hired him. For him this was an honor and even more, he was looking forward to having a mission with Zhan once again. It had been a long time since the two of them had completed a mission together, and so he could see how Zhan had developed in all the years since he first saw him.

After lunch they brought Xiao Lan to the station under much protest and said goodbye to her. Zhan breathed a sigh of relief and also said goodbye to Seo Joon's wrinkles on his forehead. From the train station they went directly to the headquarters where they received all the necessary information about the target. Seo Joon was surprised to see that they had to follow a Korean. And this one wasn't an unknown person, he called himself Joker and was under suspicion in Korea because of several crimes, only no one had managed to prove him wrong until now. At least that's the information Seo Joon had so far. Here at the Black Agency, they were one step ahead. They were able to connect the Joker with several smaller crimes. But what the Black Agency wanted was to prove the evidence for the murder of a seventeen year old student.

However, before they left the headquarters, they met with Special Agent Tao Long in Zhan's office, who was currently the agent keeping an eye on him from the surveillance center. They asked Tao Long about places that the Joker, or Jung Sung Moon as he was actually called, visited. Which he visited several times or regularly, if there were any clues to his residence and so on. And before Tao Long left again to resume his work behind the monitor, he told Zhan about Yibo's first week.

Tao Long: I think he is quick at learning and understanding. He just hasn't been taught how to use this ability. Also, despite his background, he has trouble asserting himself. The lack of affection and trust in his childhood is reflected in the fact that he is now clinging to his new family. He has developed a fear that they will turn away from him if he does not function as they want him to. This fear makes his focus on other things disappear. He is so busy trying to please his family that he completely blocks out everything else. But, he is already making progress without realizing it. He has also set new goals for himself. He wants to be a good agent that his husband can be proud of and he wants to win back his husband and be a good husband to him. Now he just needs to learn how to do that.

Zhan thanked him for the information and then Tao Long left the office.

Seo Joon: Why is he giving you a report?

Zhan: He and I have an deal!

Seo Joon: What is it?

Zhan: He helps Yibo to become a good agent and also teaches him about life and I will do one last mission with him. He will stop soon and wishes to be on a mission one last time. So he trains Yibo and after that he and I will do a mission before he retires.

Seo Joon: But why him?

Zhan: It's like this. Tao Long is not just anyone. He was my trainer back then, he taught me everything I know. Thanks to him I became a good special agent. My parents always treated me like an apprentice agent, but I learned everything from him. I was amazed when I learned that my old instructor ended up with the Black Agency and here he is not just anyone. There are four big bosses and he is one of them. Tao Long is someone who teaches you something and you don't even realize it. He talks about himself and his experiences and how he solved problems and without you even noticing it you have been taught something by him. Get a new lesson by telling you a story about himself. And the way he tells it makes you listen with excitement. And that's exactly who Yibo needs. Someone who can teach him from his life wisdom and experiences without Yibo feeling forced to do anything or getting bored. I asked Tao Long to take care of Yibo, he took a closer look at him, he knew the reports and agreed. He is also someone Yibo can confide in. With him he will always find an open ear and is regularly praised, even for small things. What do you think that will do to a man like Yibo?

Seo Joon: He will continue his efforts to be praised further. He wants to make his instructor proud.

Zhan: Exactly. When I was about to make my written statement assuming full responsibility for Yibo's failure in his mission, I met Tao Long and we had a long talk. And that's when I got the idea that if anyone can help teach Yibo anything, it's him. And then everything happened very quickly, within fifteen minutes everything was settled. Yibo was downgraded to apprentice and got a special agent as instructor. Yibo has no idea that he already trained me or even that he is one of the big bosses.

Seo Joon: You two are pretty tough. But I think it's a good idea and obviously he learns something from it.

Zhan: Right. I do it for him and I hope he will learn a lot.

When the two of them got the information where their target was, they immediately set off.

On Saturday, Zhan and Seo Joon followed their target and happened to meet Yibo. Yibo was beaming all over his face and was happy to tell Zhan about his successes. Zhan was really very proud of him and was also happy with him. He could see in Yibo that it was important for him to be able to tell Zhan about it. And when Zhan praised him, Yibo looked like he was about to take off. Zhan hadn't seen him so happy for a long time and hoped it would continue. Because the more Yibo learned about himself, about the job and the more confident he became and showed it, the more chances there was that the two of them could be together again one day. And so he cheered Yibo on. Not only because he thought about himself, but also because Yibo now found himself and finally became the man he should be. Proud and confident.
