RisenClan Book Two

Evermore

Eyes as dark as the night that rose faster before them peered out from behind a dark green bush. The cat's tail hung low and hovered just above the cold ground. Leaf-bare was just among them. It left the remains of Leaf-fall just behind them. They were not looking forward to Leaf-bare. Every other season, hunting was no challenge. Prey was of plenty and herbs grew faster than ever. In Leaf-bare growth seemed to stand still and the lake froze over leaving CoastClan cats to hunt just beyond the beach. It was a skill they had never excelled in.

Within the past few moons CoastClan's numbers had decreased by a fourth. Sickness was spreading through camp like wild fire and had finally seemed to slow down within the last half a moon. The strange sickness had taken the valued lives of what seemed to be mostly kits and elders and had left the clan with hardly any new apprentices this past season. The clan was desperate for new life and with Leaf-bare just ahead it would be harder and harder to get through without apprentices. This mission was not one they had been planning on doing for a long time. In fact, in the past, CoastClan had allied with RisenClan more times than one. This mission had been one every cat felt the need to do.

Rumors had spread about so much new life in RisenClan. RisenClan seemed to have been hit the least by the strange sickness that  the cats began to call The Black Death, that had began in CrimsonClan. If there was so much life in RisenClan than a few kits would not hurt the growth of the clan a bit at all. In fact they would most likely not even be noticed!

At least that was what CoastClan leader, Lonestar assured herself. The black cat was accompanied by three other warriors and her own apprentice. She wanted the job done with no blood shed  and no cries in the night. She hoped to keep the kits asleep and quiet. She thought that if she did no cat would even notice they were present. They had a plan of course.

Lakepaw flicked his tail a bit as he began to speak. "I don't see any cats Lonestar." He said in a soft whisper. The gray tom turned to look at Lonestar.

She nodded and peared at the other three warriors who sat peering over the bush, Swimminriver, Starrynight, and Warningwell. Starrynight spoke first. "I believe the markers were made before Night-fall. They are in no way fresh." The dark tom meowed.

Lonestar watched the tortie body of Swimmingriver shiver and she wrapped her tail around herself. Warningwell licked her head and wrapped his tail around Swimmingriver. "We must get moving or else we will freeze waiting here."

Lonestar nodded, she ignored the bitter cold that wrapped around them like they had been tossed and forced to lay out in the bitter cold snow. Except there was no snow yet, just piercing cold air. It seemed that this Leaf-bare would be the coldest in a long time. She rose to her feet and helped the six mooned old Lakepaw off the ground. It was no struggle, the tom too had gotten very sick during the outbreak. He was left weak and thin from the damage it took on his body.

The five cats crossed the boarder and headed towards RisenClan camp. Their steps were soft and slow. They did not want to run the risk of waking any cat or animal around them. As they reached the back of RisenClan territory where the nursery was Lonestar was pleased to hear no movement around them. "Stay very quiet." She began in a whisper. "Be quick, yet accurate with your claws. Once we break through the weaved grass and we can get into the nursery I want Starrynight to hand out the kits to us and we will take as many as we can carry in our jaws. Understand?" The cats all nodded and they unsheathed there razor claws and began to work there way through the grass, breaking it quietly and quickly.

It seemed all to easy. These cats had to be fish-brained to not have a cat on guard tonight. They needed some more protection on there walls too. Lonestar was glad to live in caves and she always made sure to have a cat guarding where they slept all night to be assured there was nothing out to harm them. Starrynight made his way inside quietly once they were done. Their work had left a gaping hole big enough for him to fit through in the nursery wall. Lonestar watched Starrynight from outside. He seemed to be having second thoughts. Lonestar noticed maybe ten figures inside, some of them kits, two queens. Starrynight looked back at Lonestar and she nodded, carefully Starrynight began by picking the smallest kits. He would grab them gently and hand them back to Lonestar who would give it to whoever was around. After just a few moments all cats but Starrynight carried a kit. Starrynight got out quickly and grabbed a kit from Swimmingriver.

They all headed back to their own clan. Not one of the kits made a noise. They all seemed to be sleeping still. This mission had gone well for them. Now CoastClan would thrive again and be everything they were not before. These kits meant to re-rise of CoastClan. She could not wait to get them back to their new home. Lonestar felt no guilt at all. She just wanted to save her clan from the horrible past that they had been living. These eight kits would save her clan and she would protect them from anything that came about them. As she carried them back the whole world seemed to sleep besides her and her clanmates she did not know this would only be the begining for a horrible future about to come for a single apprentice that slept just across RisenClan camp. An apprentice who would have to prove his innocence with everything he had.
