Daykit sat in the hole where she had been placed by Drippingwet. She could see why they kept kittens in these hole, one they got in they could not get out, the caves could be dangerous for kits if they wandered to far and slipped on a rock.
The den was warm and smelled like the two cats that stood staring at Daykit and Toadkit. It was a different hole than they had been in before. This one was even deeper and smaller. It seemed like Drippingwet and Slickfoot had been sleeping here for a few sunsets to fill the den with their scent and warmth. It did not make the two kits more comfortable. They felt out of place and scared, especially with the eyes of two strange cats over them. Toadkit stood in front of Daykit, his pelt touching her own. They were backed against the wall again. She felt safer there. Slickfoot took a step towards them and Daykit ducked down.
"Why are they so jumpy?" Slickfoot asked turning to face Drippingwet.
She shrugged. "Give them time my lovely." She purred running her tail across him.
He looked sternly at them. "Come on, stop, we won't hurt you."
Toadkit remained where he was, protecting Daykit.
Drippingwet smiled warmly. "Please, be good little kittens and loosen up. I promise no harm will come of it."
With that. Toadkit sat down next to Daykit slowly. Daykit sat up and looked at them.
"Good." Drippingwet purred and flicked her tail. "Very good. As long as you always listen to your mom, and dad, and are well behaved you will never be in trouble."
Toadkit leaned in to whisper. "Don't let them brainwash you Daykit. You know who your real mother and father are. Not these cats." He said and licked her.
"We have some rules we must cover." Slickfoot meowed sternly.
"Is it a bit to early Slick?" Drippingwet meowed.
"No, it is not. The sooner they learn how to live with us the better." He spat.
"Sorry lovely." Drippingpoint meowed passively.
"Good. Now rule number one, you will never speak of your past friends, clan, siblings, or parents. This will make it easier to begin your new lives if you do not drag on the past. Two, you will refer to us as mother and father. Three, our word is law. You will listen to whatever we say right when we say it. Four, never question me or your mother. Five, you will never speak unless spoken to, anyone above you will be referred to as miss or sir. Failure to follow any of these rules will result in punishment." He nodded his head at them and looked at Drippingwet. "Anything to add?"
"No." She meowed with a smile.
"Good. I will be off now, do not let them leave here until I return, yes?"
"Yes lovely." She meowed happily.
Slickfoot made his way out of the den.
"I think you two will love it here." She said joyously.
Toadkit licked Daykit's head comfortingly.
"Well come here my kits. You two must be famished. Suckle." She laid down, revealing her plump belly.
Toadkit looked disgusted. This was not his mother! "We are not hungry." He said.
Drippingwet's whole mood changed and she bolted up and eyes the kit. "Excuse me? Who do you think you are. You will do it or be punished!" She spat and stared him down. "Say yes mother."
Toadkit did not he pushed Daykit aside with his nose and proceeded to stare at her. "You are not my mommy!" He said. "I will not!"
Like a storm, Drippingwet slammed her paw against Toadkit's face. Toadkit fell to the ground, shock on his face.
