Chapter 5: Back at Dother Hall

Lullah
That night, I snuck Cain into the cottage. The poor guy took a broken arm for me after all. We got up to my squirrel room and I made a scape for him at the end of the bed. He sat down and looked me in the eyes as a smile took over his face. "What?" I giggled
"You" he replied
"Oh come on then" I laughed, making room next to me. Cain crawled into the space and put an arm around me. I slowly drifted to sleep with my head on Cain's chest.
Cain
I woke up the next morning in Lullah's bed. She was still asleep curled up next to me. "Psssst...Lules" I whispered. Slowly she opened her eyes and looked at me with a small grin. "Good morning gorgeous" I said as she sat up and leaned into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her but....ouch! I forgot that Charlie broke my arm. "Oh!" Said Lullah " get dressed Cain. I'm taking you to the doctor."
"No. no! Tha will be late for dith- Dother Hall" I moaned in protest.
"I can make it if you get up now." She replied stubbornly. I got up and realised I still had my clothes on from last night. Lullah came out of the bathroom in a tie die t-shirt and some jeans. She stood in the doorway staring at me. "Give me a second.." she said, scurrying off to the next room. She came back with some clean clothes and ushered me into the bathroom. I came out in jeans, a jean long sleeved shirt and a trench coat. Lullah smiled as I entered the room. She took my hand and we went downstairs.
Lullah
I had Cain by the hand and as I went to get my jacket I remembered the night before. Those Bottomly sisters had my jacket!! I turned to Cain and said "they've taken my coat"
"Hang on" he replied and raced upstairs. He raced back down with his coat and gave it to me. I pulled it on, it was warm and long. I took Cain's hand again and we walked out of the door. Towards the town, towards the tree sisters, towards ruby, towards Charlie. By the time we reached the town he had his arm around my waist and I was resting my head against his shoulder. I was so comfortable with him but what would the Tree Sisters think!? I went with Cain took her his Cast and I signed it for him. He walked me all the way to the gates of Dother Hall. I gulped with fear as I looked up at the school and it beared down on me. I looked over to Cain and saw the he too was in awe of the school. He looked down at me and smiled his sweet smile. "Your stop, miss." He said, and gestured to the gates. " why thank you, kind sir" I said and curtsied. He pull me close and kissed me on the forehead. I buried my face in his chest and enjoyed the embrace. I was just leaving when I heard from behind me "Lullah!?" I spun around. It was the Tree Sisters! I grinned at them and they looked at me and then Cain and back at my again. I felt my face flush and I kissed Cain on the cheek. I ran over to the girls and hugged them. Jo said " Tell. Us. Everything."
Cain
I smiled as she ran to her friends, all excited and jumpy like a lamb chasing a butterfly. I waved her off they ran into the school. Flossie looked back and gave me a thumbs up. I turned around and started walking back into town when I walked past the sign reading 'Woolfe Academy' I knew that Charlie was in there. I wouldn't let him hurt Lules again. I vowed it.
Lullah
I walked alongside the girls telling them about what happened with Charlie and about what Cain did for me. She girls listened in shock as I told them. By the end they were all grinning with delight "that's so romantic that he would do that for you" said Vaisey. " I guess so." I replied "but enough about me what about you guys?"
"Jack sent me another guitar pick while I was away" said Vaisey
"I'm going to snog Phil soooo much when I see him" Exclaimed Jo, jumping about like a lunatic.
"I'm more interested in that Seth boy but I have got that floppy boy Ben wrapped around my finger" Said Flossie. I laughed at them, it was good to see them again. We walked along when Flossie pulled me back. "That's Cain's coat" she said, pointing at it.
"Yes...it is?" I replied.
"He fancies you" she exclaimed.
"What!?" I replied, shocked
"Yes! He told me so..and by the looks of it. You fancy him too" she concluded. I just stood there in shock as Flossie sashayed away. I followed after her in a state of shock. Did I fancy Cain!?
Cain
I wandered around town when I saw Seth with the Bottomly girls I walked up to hear them say " that Lullah girls a numpty, she is, a right idiot I say" I listened as I grew madder and madder until I heard Seth say " tha better watch out talkin 'bout her like that, Cain'll git tha" I watched as the girls faces twisted into scowls "what!? It's not like he fancies 'er or some'n" Seth laughed " sure! Tha can keep believing that all tha wants." He replied patting them on the back sympathetically. I ran up to him as h walked away from them. "Seth" I called. He smirked and waited for me. We walked along and finally I said "what're those Bottomly's up too"
"The're scheming to 'eliminate' tha's girl" he replied
"Eliminate!?" I gasped
" tha really does fancy her then" he smirked at me.
" oh! shut tha's mouth!" I exclaimed, belting him across the head. He laughed as I chased him.
Lullah
It was lunchtime and the girls wanted to go to the special tree. I didn't want to but Flossie dragged me along anyway. We were sitting there eating our lunch when out of the trees came...Phil! 😁 and Jack 😁 and Ben 😁 and....charlie 😠. I watched as the couples reunited. Phil and Jo were snogging. Jack was talking and Vaisey was blushing. Ben looked like he'd been electrocuted by Flossie and Charlie came and sat next to me. I scowled at him, turning away. He made me feel sick. "Lullah...please" he began. "No." I said " I don't want to hear it"
"Let me explain" he begged
" fine then. Explain. Explain why you snogged Beverly Bottomly right in front of me." I demanded.
" I was drunk! And then she was there. And then we were at the cottage. And then I was fighting Cain. He exclaimed "that's all I remember, honest!" I sighed and shook my head. "Why should I forgive you?" I asked sadly. He looked me in the eyes and said "because I forgave you." I sighed and said "alright" Charlie grinned like nothing else and pulled me into a bear hug. I pulled away and finished my lunch. Chatting to Vaisey while we packed up the picnic. Finally the boys had to leave. I didn't even say goodbye to Charlie. I just walked off to the Hall.
Cain
After being home for a while I checked the time. One hour until Lules would be finished. I whipped on my good duds and walked off to the shops. I walked in and bought a bouquet of pink and yellow flowers. I walked over to Dother Hall and waited at the gates. I checked my watch "5 minutes" I muttered to myself. 5 minutes went by and I watched as girls came streaming out of the school. I watched and watched until....there she was. She came out of the school and...she was still wearing my coat! A grin shot across her face when she saw me and she ran up to hug me. I gave her the flowers and smiled at her. And this time..she kissed me! I was surprised but delighted. Then she stood in her toes and whispered in my ear "I fancy you too"
