The words replayed through my mind over and over again."You need nerve pills." The doctor told me.
I stood in line at the pharmacy, waiting to walk up to the counter. A man stood in front of me, holding a bottle of Aleve in his hand. He walked up to the counter and smiled at the pharmacist.
"Is this all for you today, Zane?" The pharmacist asked him. "Sure is," He responded. She quickly scanned the item. "That'll be ten dollars." She told him. I watched him hand her a ten-dollar bill. "You stay safe out there tonight, Mrs. Hart. It's dangerous out there, in the real world." He said. "I will, Zane. See you next time." She waved to him as he started to walk away.
"You alright over there?"
I looked up to see that she was talking to me. "Oh, uh, yes." I walked up to the counter. "I've never seen you around before. Are you a new customer?" She looked at me up and down. "No, not exactly," I said. "Then what's your name?" She smiled.
That's when I noticed how beautiful she was. She had gorgeous green eyes, a beautiful smile, an adorable nose, and long, red curly hair. I could see heaven in her eyes. They were so unique, so beautiful. My heart sped up at the sight of her breathtaking smile. She had cute little dimples, making her look so innocent and sweet. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.
"I'm Joseph." I introduced myself. "Well, hello Joseph. I'm Melissa." She held out her hand. I grabbed ahold of her hand and shook it. Her skin was extremely soft. I never wanted to let go.
"How are you on this fine day?" Her soft voice spoke. "I'm great, now that I've met you," I told her. Her pale cheeks turned a light shade of red. I smiled at the sight.
"How are you?" I returned the question. She began to slip her hand away. My thumb ran across her fingers. "I'm wonderful," She stammered. She looked me in the eyes and immediately looked away. She stared at her hands, avoiding my gaze.
"What prescription are you here for today?" She got back to business. I sighed, "I'm here for my nerve pills." "You don't seem nervous to me." She said.
I turned my head, looking out the glass door. Does she know that I lied to the doctor? She can't know that I lied to them. I can't risk her finding out about me abusing each prescription I get. She'll call my parents, and then, there will be no hope for me. By then, I may as well give up on life.
I looked back at the counter to see my prescription already in the bag. I grabbed ahold of it and held it in my hand.
"Wait, you need to sign here." She held out a pen for me to use. I took it from her hands. She then slid a clipboard over to me, pointing to where I needed to sign my name. My hand shook as I brought it toward the paper.
She put her hand on my wrist to keep it from shaking. I looked up at her. "It looks like you needed some help there." She whispered. I silently laughed as I signed my name. She let go of my wrist and looked at me.
"You're all set now." She had a sad look in her eyes. "Yeah, guess so." I took ahold of my stuff. "Wait, before you leave," She started to say. I interrupted her. "Nice ring, Mrs. Hart. I bet your husband spent a lot of money on that." I said.
Her green eyes widened. She didn't say anything except, "Thank you." I looked at her and shook my head in defeat. Her being married saddened me. When I noticed the ring on her finger when she took ahold of my wrist, I felt angry. I wanted to hit her, kick her, and scream at her for leading me down a cliff. I just knew I had to get out of here before I actually did something.
"Joseph, please, wait!" Her voice called out as I opened the door. I turned my head and looked at her. What does she want now?
"When will I see you again?"
The moment she spoke those words, it was like all my anger disappeared. It was like it never existed in the first place.
"I don't know. Maybe soon," I told her. "How soon is soon?" She asked. "I guess you'll have to find out. Look at your computer." I then walked out the door, leaving her there to wonder.
I know she'll figure it out soon. I have a feeling that Melissa is a smart girl. All she'll have to do is look up my name on her computer, click on information, and my number will pop up. It's not that hard.
I walked over to my mother's car and got in the passengers' side. "Took you long enough." Mother said. "Sorry, I got distracted." I apologized. "By what?" She looked at me with questioning eyes. "Products." I lied to her face.
She shook her head and started the car. "I just hope this medicine works." She merged into traffic. I looked out the window, watching the buildings slowly pass by. The bank, the diner, the old post office, and the small hair salon.
I saw two young children walking with what looks to be their father. They had red hair and pale skin, just like Melissa. Their father was tan and had blonde hair. He was good looking, seemed to be Melissa's type.
I watched them as they walked down the street. They stopped once they reached the pharmacy. The father opened the door for them and the children sprinted inside.
"What are you looking at?" Mother asked. "Nothing," I told her.
I turned my attention back in front of me. That's when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I removed it from my sweatpants pocket. My phone read, 'Message from unknown number'. I clicked on the message in anticipation. Could it be Melissa?
'Hah, you need to step up your game on these challenges. That was extrememly easy. Next time, come up with something more complex.' The message read.
I smiled. I knew she'd figure it out in no time. I just knew Melissa was a smart woman.
'I've got to go now. I have things to work on and I forgot to tell you. It's Melissa, from the pharmacy. See you soon, J.' Another message popped up.
My heart skipped a beat. She came up with a nickname for me. I couldn't help myself but to turn around and look at the pharmacy now. I bit my lip at the sight of it.
That beautiful worker inside wants to see me, Joseph Knox, again. She wants to see a person that loves murder and dark things. She wants to see a person who cannot control their thoughts, and sometimes their actions. She wants to see the person that has the same traits as a serial killer.
I couldn't believe it. She wants to see me, a young, troubled, teenage boy.
A/N)) This is my worst chapter yet, in my opinion. I'm sorry, guys. :/
