Whipping my long wavy hair up into a messy bun, I pulled my sweats up.
They were a little to big, considering they used to be Ashton's.
My tshirt was also Ashton's.
I MISS HIM OKAY?!?
Michael smiled at me. "Are those Ashton's?" He asked.
I nodded, not trusting my voice.
"He would love to see in his clothes." Luke said from behind me.
How did they keep their voices so steady when talking about him?
I nodded rapidly, my eyes rapidly filling with tears.
"Oh Aves! We didn't mean to..." Michael trailed off, looking helpless.
Calum hugged me. "Avery, we'll find him. I promise."
"He's my big brother!" I cried. "He's supposed to be here for me!"
Luke and Michael came over and hugged me too.
"We're here for you." They said.
They might be, and I was grateful for that.
But it just wouldn't be the same.
***
"Where are you going?" I asked, my eyes wide and my chubby
hands clutching Ashton's.
He bent down to meet my level. "School kiddo."
He was in Year 2.
"Why can't I go?" I asked, my lower lip trembling.
"Don't cry Avery! Next year, I promise."
I shook my head. "But Ash..."
He kissed the top of my head, and quickly stood up. "I have to go sis."
I watched him leave.
I felt alone,
But boy,
Was I clueless back then.
***
I shot up in my bed.
Or tried to.
Luke's arms were wrapped tightly around my waist, holding me close to him.
I felt my cheeks, they were wet from tears.
I laid back down, snuggling up to Luke,
And feeling safe for the very first time in a while.
