Chapter 21: But What Am I Doing Wrong?
Day 3 Modern Day Torture.
"Stop!" I shouted. We were doing the balcony scene and Lucas was butchering it. As a director and a normal human being, I couldn't take it anymore. Megan was next to me shaking her head at Lucas. All of the people on stage stopped what they were doing, immediately. Jenna/Juliet and Lucas/Romeo gave me a confused look. "Lucas, I need to talk to you. Everyone else do what you are supposed to. All my actors, keep studying your dialogue."
I swear these kids couldn't do anything without direct instructions. Lucas slowly made his way over, testing my patience. Honestly, he expected me to put up with him and his awful acting at eight in the morning. Way too early.
"What's wrong?" asked Lucas confused as he came to join Megan and I in the auditorium seats.
"A lot of things. But as of right now, your terrible acting," I said straightforward. Megan nudged me. I looked her and I could tell she was expecting me to be nicer to Lucas. Yeah, that wasn't happening.
"Hey!" Lucas said offended.
"I am being serious here, Crowell. You make me suffer through your acting one more time, you are out. And I assure you, I will have a lot of support from my class mates," I said giving him a pointed look.
"But what am I doing wrong?" I could tell my words had affected him. He was trying to keep a cool composure but it wasn't hard to see his half embarraassed and half annoyed look.
"Megan, take over," I said. I needed some time as well to calm down.
Megan, like the awesome assistant she was, understood my directions. She held a clipboard in her hands where she had been writing down Lucas's faults and complaining about them. She simply read her list to Lucas.
"Poor posture, no feelings, you seem like you're just reading off your lines, very robotic, you get loud and silent at the wrong scenes, and your facial expressions are mostly comical. Romeo who is heartbroken from his breakup is supposed to look miserable not ready to party," finished Megan.
Lucas, fortunately, did not deny any of it. "Fine! I'll try to work on that." He stalked off after saying that.
Megan just shook her head at his back and turned to me. "He really acts like a little kids sometimes," she said.
"Sometimes? All the time," I corrected. She gave me a grin as the rehearsal started again.
Honestly, the balcony scene was the most boring scene ever. Sure, the couple made promises to get married and all that jazz, it was still annoying. I just wished they would have died which they weren't going to.
Some things in life were just ridiculous. I looked around to see how everyone else was doing. Julian was playing the role of Paris, the guy who Juliet's parents had selected for their daughter. Julian was actually a great actor. He had told me that he had done a couple of Shakespearean plays before. I guess that helped him. He stood next to the artists who had gotten half of the scenery done. It was beautiful. Most people were really talented in that department. Plus, Jordan was the leader of the artists, so he put everyone on track. People loved him. He was hilarious and easy to get along with.
I wonder what Lucas will think when he gets to go out on a date with Jordan.
Genuinely speaking, I felt slightly bad for both of the boys. Jordan got a date with his crush. Lucas, on the other hand, got a date with one of his worshippers.
