Chapter 28: Get out, Lucas.

Noticing our proximity, I pulled away from Lucas and ran a hand through my hair. His presence was really unexpected...and unwanted.

"Why are you here?" I demanded.

"To see the accident patients. Julian looked fine, and you look--why are you wearing that thing?" he said going off topic. I glared and turned around, making my way towards my room. Lucas followed, unsurprisingly. "You know, it's really annoying when you just ignore me. Especially after I help you out," he added.

"Thank you, Lucas, for saving me from a cart," I said flatly. "I am ignoring you because I hardly have any energy left inside me. Eleven stitches aren't easy to deal with."

"Eleven stitches? Dang! I am sorry," he said surprised.

I didn't say anything rather found my room and went inside. Julian, Gramma, and Cate sat inside on the three chairs. All of them looked gloomy and tired. Once they saw me, all of them stood up and rushed to my side. Groaning, I stormed my way towards the bed and tucket myself in the blanket.

"Grumpy," muttered Cate.

"Tired," I corrected her as I pulled the blankets all the way up to my chin.

"Where were you?" Gramma asked.

"She was having a date with one of medical supply carts," Lucas answered with a grin.

I glared at him but said nothing. "Sandy..." Gramma started.

"I was with one of the other patients. She was just showing me around," I replied, and sat up. I might as well get the questioning done with already.

"Why are you wearing that thing on top of your gown?" she asked, her eyes going back forth between the black coat and my eyes.

"The hospital gown doesn't have a back," I said flatly. Cate and Lucas started laughing, and Julian had a small smile. I glared at the three of them but nevertheless continued, "I wasn't going to walk around half naked. Stupid gown."

"Oh all right," Gramma said in a more relaxed tone. "I brought you some home-made soup," she smiled as she pulled out some weird thermos thing. She fished a bowl out of her tote bag, cleaned it in the sink in the corner of the room, and poured the soup in there. Pulling out a spoon and adding it to the soup bowl, she put it all on a tray.

I took it from her and put it on my lap. Slowly, I drank the soup. Everyone else stood there awkwardly, not knowing what else to do. For a little bit, I enjoyed their uneasiness.

"Do you guys need anything?" I finally asked putting down my spoon in the half full bowl. Everyone shook their heads. "Go home, then."

"I don't want to leave you alone here," Gramma said hesitantly.

I just looked at her. "I am gonna be fine. There are plenty of other people and doctors here. Also, you can't ditch Cate alone at home. School tomorrow," I reasoned, and started drinking the warm soup again. It was actually pretty good.

"I'll be fine," shrugged Cate.

I was about to tell her to not get her hopes up of staying home alone when Gramma interjected, "No, dear. You're young. Sandy, I'll come tomorrow morning to take you home. Dr. Vargo said the discharge papers will be ready by tomorrow."

"Cool" was my only response.

"You boys should be heading home soon as well," said Gramma.

I smiled slowly, seeing Lucas's and Julian's quick nods of agreement. "Why are you two even here?" I asked them.
