|Hades|
"That was really fun," she said as we stepped off the gondola "I've never been to Venice," there's a faint Italian accent in her voice.
"It smells like garbage," I stated as we walked by the canal.
"Then why did you bring us here?" Azrael gave me back my sunglasses and I made them disappear because now we are in the shade I don't need them.
A deep sigh left my mouth "This was a place I visited countless times in the dark ages; it reminds me of old times."
"You mean during the plague?"
"The Black Death," I corrected "that's how they called it back then but I had nothing to do with it."
"Who did it?" Her voice sounded cautious.
I glanced at her "Aphrodite and her magic powders; Zeus' punishment for turning him into a myth; he killed 50 million people. I carried babies in my arms, days old, not even months. Every human blamed me but I only cleaned up the mess."
"I'm sorry," Azrael whispered.
My eyes moved to meet her face, she was fidgeting her fingers, which bothers me a lot. As if she has something to tell me, it might not be the case but that's what it communicates me.
"Stop that," I grabbed her hand and intertwined our fingers "let's have something to eat," I walked into a trattoria and took in the smell of freshly baked garlic bread, basil, tomatoes, and cheese.
Before the Black Death took over Europe I used to roam the cities every day, excited to see how humans behaved, maybe use it to make their stay in the underworld comfortable. I know it might seem like I don't care about them but I do, it is my job as their ruler. Kharon helps a lot, I think he is the only creature apart from Cerberus who has been on my side since the beginning. Not that other deities are on my side but Athena didn't start visiting me until the Black Death happened, she said she was worried about me...
Even if she's considered the protector of Zeus as in she possesses the only weapon in the world that can stop a divinity's heart and uses it to protect her father, she also takes care of Poseidon and me. She's the grown-up in the family, the one who always thinks about everyone before herself and looks for the strategy with less collateral, unlike Ares who is a fucking pain in the ass.
Have you heard that tale about Aphrodite being unfaithful to Hephaestus with Ares? Well, it ain't real. Ares has always been in love with Athena and Aphrodite has always hated her sister for it; you think Aphrodite is beautiful, well my little Athena is pulchritudinous because not only does she have silver eyes but also owns a good heart and fascinating mind. For her, I didn't start a war with my siblings after Persephone. Needless to say, she's my best friend. And no I am not in love with her, she's like the daughter I will never have.
We took a seat at a table for two "Do you want me to order for us?" I think her cheeks will forever remain tinted.
"It is your duty."
"Oh, right," a waiter left two menus and told us he would be back in two minutes to take our order. I read through the list of delicious-sounding food "What would you like? Pasta? Pizza?"
"Pizza."
"One in particular?"
"Just cheese and the second one Margherita," I cleared my throat as I watched her read through the menu. Her eyelashes are so long and curled, her nose very small; my brother and his wife took their time with her. Aphrodite would probably kill her to eat all the beauty.
