"So, how are you doing, Jordyn?"

"I'm okay. Just ready to get out of Miami," I sigh, staring out of the window. "I get to start over."

"How are your parents?" my therapist asks, already knowing the answer.

"Fighting like usual, but at this point I've learned how to tune it out."

"Have you ever talked to your parents about the fighting?"

"Now, you know better than anyone that talking to them isn't gonna do anything. They're just gonna keep fighting. At this point, I just need to block it out until I move."

"You think that'll help? Pushing it down?"

"It'll work till I go to college," I shrug, not making eye contact.

"How much did you drink last night?" she asks, catching me completely off guard.

"Excuse me?"

"I can smell it on your breath. How much did you drink?"

"Look, can we talk about something else?"

"Sure, but you do understand that-"

"I know, I know. It's illegal," I sigh.

"Jordyn, I don't care about that part. I mean I do, but I don't. I care about your health. I don't want you drinking yourself to death because you're trying to forget about the rape or your parents fighting," she says, grabbing my hand.

"I don't drink often. Just when it gets really bad. It makes it easier to fall asleep."

"What about the medicine we talked about? It serves the same purpose. It allows your brain to kinda slow down so you can fall asleep. I want to try that. And if it doesn't work, then we'll try something else. But you drinking isn't going to work."

"Are you sure it'll work? I've been on so many medications and half the time they don't."

"It'll work. I'll make sure of it."

"Okay..."

"Here, let's fill out some paperwork."

"Baby?! Where are you?" Miles yells over the phone.

"I just left therapy. Why is Morgan screaming so loud?" I ask, pulling the phone away from my ear.

"Come over here right now. She's been crying for you all day. And I can't calm her down."

"Aww, that's so sweet."

"This ain't sweet. She's a demon, right now. Come here," he says, fidgeting around.

"I'm on my way."

Over the past couple of months, Morgan and I have gotten really close. She likes having another girl around since her mom works a lot. Ever since Miles' parents got divorced, his mom has had to work her ass off to make sure Morgan is okay. But she never complains, she just goes with the flow. That's one thing I've always really admired about her.

I also let Morgan put makeup and stuff on me. She's still a little girl that is in love with that kind of stuff. Miles tries to play dress up, but I'm just better at it. He doesn't buy into the fantasy enough.
