Rokuro/Min Woo's POV:
"Kei!" I called out to Hoshi. "I need help with Kiyoshi and Amaya!"
A very long flight and a few days of telling Tatsuo and Miyako their new names were Kiyoshi and Amaya got them answering to them. Me and Hoshi still needed to remind each other to respond to our new names.
"What do you need, Rokuro?" he asked me, basically sleepwalking into the twins' bedroom.
"Kiyoshi feels a little warm and he's acting abnormal, Kei," I said to him, worried. "I need you to stay here with Amaya while I take Kiyoshi to the doctor. I'm worried he might be sick."
"Why would Kiyoshi be sick when Amaya still seems perfectly healthy, Rokuro?" he asked me.
"I'm worried there was something in what we ate last night. It's why I don't typically let them eat takeout. Kiyoshi has food allergies and you can never guarantee what is in food you're not cooking," I replied.
"Maybe we should have both of them checked out? Just to be on the safe side?" Kei suggested. "I mean, it can't hurt to have them both checked after moving across the world, right?"
I sighed.
"You're right," I told him. "Plus, it keeps not only the twins, but us together. On the off-chance there's an emergency, we're safer together."
Kei got Amaya fed, washed up, and dressed. Kiyoshi wouldn't eat, a surefire sign he wasn't feeling well. So, while Kei fed Amaya, I had gotten Kiyoshi washed up and dressed. As he finished getting her ready, I had just gotten off the phone with a local pediatrician's office who would see them immediately because of the concerns I had for Kiyoshi. We just had to hurry.
When we got to the pediatrician's office, I filled out the paperwork, giving them two copies of the twins' medical records. They were actually their medical records, just with their names changed, but one copy was in Japanese, the other was in English. I knew someone who worked at the clinic I took them to, so when I told her why I needed the copies with the fake names, she gave me everything I needed.
The assistant took us in and started checking the twins. He checked their height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature. When he took Kiyoshi's I told him it was slightly higher than when I had taken it before I had called. He made note of that and his symptoms, allergies, and the same for Amaya. Finally, the doctor came in.
The doctor seemed young, and had a very calming aura about her. As soon as she came in, Amaya, who was fussing after the assistant did a check of her vitals, calmed down. Even Kiyoshi, who was squirming in my arms, just settled for curling up on my shoulder. Both Kei and I were in awe of how quickly she quieted the twins.
"My name is Dr. Sara Park," she introduced herself. "So, which of you is the biological father of this adorable duo?"
Kei elbowed me in my ribs, making me realize I needed to speak.
"Adopted father, and that's me," I told her. "I'm Rokuro Watanabe. This is..."
"Your boyfriend?" Dr. Park asked, making me turn colors.
"Best friend. Kei Matsumoto," he replied. "I'm just a friend helping out his best friend."
"Okay," Dr. Park said. "Sorry for assumptions. It's just I see it pretty often with younger couples with kids. Especially adopted kids."
"Dr. Park, Kei is more like my brother," I finally spoke up. "When I moved to New York he only came with me to help me with Kiyoshi and Amaya."
"Okay. So, other than wanting to see that these rugrats are doing okay after moving from Japan to New York, I was told you were concerned one of them might be having some kind of allergy issue, Mr. Watanabe?" she asked.
