The funeral lasted for nine days. The environment in the house is quite different. We somehow felt that there is no life anymore. Maria and Jaime's love somehow brought joy and life in the house. With them gone, I don't even know what to do to bring back the life again.
There are times where I cried. I might have met the couple for only a few weeks but they were closest in my heart. I have loved the way they showed me that I am home, despite Philippines not being my hometown. They showed me that I am part of the family. I will forever be honored to be part of such happy group of people. One time, I called the office where I worked, asking to extend my leave due to Maria and Jaime's death. India video-called me afterwards when she heard about my extension of leave.
"Freya, I am so sorry." India said over the video.
"It's okay India. I know that they're fine there. It's just..."
"It's just what?"
"It hurts." I said, crying.
"Oh Freya." India said, "If I was there, I would comfort you. Would you like me to go there? I'll bring Luke along."
"You don't have to. After the burial I'll go home anyways."
"I swear, if you go home I'll really hug you."
I smiled, wiping the tears from my eyes, "Thanks India." I then hanged up.
Then the day of the burial came. There was a mass and a procession going to the cemetery. We all mourned and offered flowers as they are lowered to the grave. It did not rain however. It means that they indeed died happily, with no worries at all. There were mourning until the grave was covered. After the burial, everyone went to have lunch at Jaime and Maria's home. One by one, everyone left, even the ones who covered the grave until Harry and I were the only ones who remained where we sat by the chairs across the grave. There was a long moment of silence. We eventually stopped crying until...
"What now?"
I looked up and turned to look at Harry, who was looking at me.
I smiled weakly, "We go home." I said softly.
He then nodded. There was moment of silence again.
"Freya-"
But then a horn was heard, we turned and saw Carmen, rolling down the window of the car, "Freya, Harry, let's go have lunch."
I then smiled and stood up. I then turned to Harry.
"Do you wanna come with us Harry?" I asked.
He shook his head, "I'm fine here."
I nodded, frowning, "Okay." I whispered, "Goodbye Harry." I then turned and walked my way towards the car until....
"Freya."
I turned to Harry, "Yes?"
I then noticed him trying to find the words he wants to say, but I put it aside.
"I just want to... say..... goodbye."
I nodded and smiled weakly then turned and left.
