Keep on whispering in my ear
Tell me all the things that I wanna hear
'Cause it's true
That's what I like about you“Hey dad,” Michael whispered, stepping inside.
“Mikey,” Calum smiled.
Michael internally winced at Calum’s state. His arm was in a cast, bent straight out. His chest was wrapped in a stark white bandage, the shade sticking out compared to Calum’s naturally tanned skin. He also had a bandage wrapped out the top of his head, covering his left eyebrow.
“You look horrible,” Michael mumbled, sitting in a chair next to him.
“I’ve been better.” Calum grinned.
“You feel okay?”
“I feel great!”
Michael smiled and shook his head. Calum was probably jacked up on pain meds or something.
“Where’s that guy who saved me? I wanna thank him properly.” Calum mumbled.
“Oh, he um, couldn’t make it. H- He had to go home.” Michael stuttered.
“Did they at least get his name? He was kinda cute.” Calum grinned, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Um, yeah. Jake.” Michael mumbled before mentally face palming at the only name he could think of.
“Ooo, like your boyfriend?” Calum teased.
“Yeah. Coincidence I guess.”
“How are you two?”
“Great, actually.”
“That’s excellent. I’m so proud of you, Mikey.”
“You and d- You keep saying your proud of me whenever I mention Jake. Are you proud I’m bi? Would you not of been proud if I was straight?”
“No, I’m proud you got a boyfriend. I always knew you would.”
Michael nodded softly and opened his mouth to speak before his phone started ringing. He took it out quickly to check who was calling.
“Sorry, it’s Jake.”
Calum smiled and gestured to him to answer it, to which, Michael obliged.
“Hey babe, sorry I left early.” Michael spoke quietly.
“It’s okay, coach told me what happened.” Jake replied.
“How’d your kick go?”
“Um, coach called out people who made the team...”
“Did you?”
“We both did.”
Michael grinned happily.
“Seriously?” Michael smiled.
“Seriously.” Jake whispered. Michael could practically hear his smile through the phone.
“Dad, I made the football team!” Michael grinned, looking up at Calum.
Calum grinned happily and gave him the thumbs up.
“But there’s something else.” Jake sighed.
“What? Don’t tell me he-”
“Yep. Terry made the team too.”
Michael groaned loudly and slumped in his chair.
“Everything okay?” Calum asked Michael.
Michael nodded softly.
“I mean, we’re there to play, not to push each other around. Hopefully it’ll be okay?” Jake sighed.
“Ha. You know Terry’s not like that. Don’t worry, I won’t let him hurt you.”
“Me? He beats you up, not me.”
“Shut up!” Michael hissed, lowering his voice. “Dad doesn’t know.”
“How do you hide your bruises? How’d you hide that black eye?” Jake asked, surprised.
“Doesn’t matter.”
“Okay. I love you.”
Michael couldn’t help but let warmth spread through his body. Two years they’ve been dating and it still gives him goosebumps every time Jake says he loves him.
“I love you too.” Michael grinned before hanging up.
“Aww!” Calum grinned.
“Shut up, he’s cute.”
